I've grown ginger in pots but never got it really productive. I Kept it in the greenhouse to keep the heat up and cut out the UV radiation that burns its leaves. Keep us posted how it goes.

Something I've always wanted to grow....it'd probably end up dead like everything else in my garden (except the bouganvilleas of course, they seem to be surviving me quite well). This ginger doesn't seem much bigger than what was planted originally?

Yes. That's the problem I had when I tried growing it. What was harvested wasn't particularly bigger than what was sown. Also ... start with organic ginger. The other stuff is treated with a hormone that prevents/greatly slows it from shooting properly.

My first shoot came up today-looks pretty healthy. Hopefully more will come up too.

When I tried growing it for a few years here it hated strong sun. Partly since our UV at this latitude is much higher than in tropics from whence it comes. Can use polycarb sheeting (eg Lazerlite) to let light in but cut out the UV. Some 15% shadecloth directly overhead is also a help.

Ok. Where it is, it gets morning sun, misses out on the afternoon furnaces. Off to Bunnings in the morning to get some shadecloth!
