The Zimbabwe government has turned off internet nationwide to suppress social media, and is rounding up activists; The news reports only confirm police/army opening fire on protests in the capital and another city but anecdotal reports I have heard suggest that the police are doing armed raids on villages and rounding up and shooting people.
The country has gone from weakness to weakness under Mugabe but it sounds like the new dictator is taking it to new lows.. petrol is still kind of available but it's above $3/L now - the president just announced a $1.50/L increase and the fuel prices set off protests (sounds a bit like the gilets jaunes but more deadly for the protestors).

Message to South Africans: you are on the same trajectory as Zimbabwe. Walk away while you still have some legs.

It is what happens when a Gov runs out of money to pay gov workers... It could happen in the US or Australia when there is no more money to borrow as the debts become unstable.

I believe they did the opposite? Hit the presses and made too much cash resulting in massive inflation? And they did that because their 'real world' economy became massively inefficient and ineffective.

And they did that because their 'real world' economy became massively inefficient and ineffective. It is the same result, Gov employees not being paid, releasing prisoners as no money to feed them, selling wildlife from game parks to pay some bills - it is full meltdown. Yes it went into hyperinflation. Every country that has printed money has ended up with hyperinflation, when the debt bubble hits the US it will be the same result. www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2016/07/06/shut-down-zimbabwe-protests-are-met-with-internet-blackouts-and-arrests/?utm_term=.5ce7c5368c14"The protests are in response to Zimbabwe's utter economic collapse, which has left the nation's coffers so empty that government employees haven't been paid salaries this month. Zimbabweans have been using foreign currency for transactions since their own became so riddled by inflation as to be worth as much as the paper on which it was printed. The government recently released most of the country's nonviolent prisoners because of the cash crunch and began to sell wildlife from its game reserves."

Only our government will sell what's left of its public assets and lease anything it can to the Chinese for a quick buck, then they will raid the super funds (shorten has already proposed a bill if labor wins the next election to raid the super funds and add taxes to them) then they will demand anyone with over X amount of cash locked away in the bank will have to forfeit it to the state (I think this was one of the measures 1 country talked about during the last GFC) The fed gov has already passed a bill allowing the army to be called in to break up mass protests if it gets to the point where the police can't handle it like in France.

I'd suggest a night that's not about to end in a hurry...sad...
When it comes to African strife I always remember the movie line from Tears Of The Sun...God left Africa a long time ago...
