Proviso...... I'm an old guy, so I AM NOT intending this for stuff to throw in a back pack and hike off into the busy to never be seen again. My intent is to have things to use "hunkered in" on our farm in the bush. We have water a plenty, and wood to cook with. I guess some of this could be adapted to back pack life, but that is another thread completely.. Keep focused.....
There are thousands of "meal in a jar" type recipes out there from the things with a bow you give grandma for a gift, and many things you empty the jar into a pot then you have to add a can of this and a package of that in a functioning kitchen. NOT my focus.
What I'm trying to do is create recipes that are
1 dry and freeze proof, VERY important here in the Great White North
2 dry and easily long term storage stable
3 dry and complete, all you need is a pot of boiling water on a camp fire, a 1 liter jar of recipe, a spoon and you have a meal for 2 or 3 adults.
For instance
Spaghetti in short lengths, tomato powder, dry milk powder, spices, home dehydrated hamburger, to make a dinner.
Potato flour, powdered milk, powdered creamer, dehydrated potatoes, peas, shredded carrots, spices, to make potato soup.
All with common grocery store, bulk food store items, homemade dehydrated items, and spices. Believe it or not it isn't easy to make up a recipe to fit a 1 liter canning jar that is capable of being used this way. My Sweetie has suffered through many experiments, most that didn't work out the best.
You get the idea.... My ultimate goal is to compile a cook book as it were of specialty recipes that fit this niche.
For instance....
Camp Fire Coffee..
2 cups instant coffee crystals I use 1 cup good brand, 1 cup cheap brand
2 cups regular coffee whitener
1 cup powdered milk
1 cup powdered sweetener, I use Splenda
Mix well. Use a heaping tea spoon or to taste, to a mug of hot water.
Anyone have recipes, tried and true, that fit requirements 1 to 3, they can share ??
