Stuff them. There are a thousand possibilities of how SHTF could occur, if it occurs. It's impossible to prep for each of those thousand possibilities. Just got to concentrate on the basics...
Air Shelter Water Food
Cover those basics then you can worry about whos got what brand tools that everybody rants on and on about on some forums

"The way I look at it: I’m not prepping to survive an EMP. I’m not prepping to survive a financial collapse. I’m not prepping to survive a global pandemic. I’m not prepping to survive a total takeover of a one world government. I’m not prepping to survive some man made or natural disaster. And I’m not prepping to survive the zombie apocalypse (mostly because I’m already surviving that quite well from my perspective…) I’M PREPPING TO SURVIVE! Come what may, I have no idea what tomorrow holds, but I intend to be as ready as I can for what ever that is…"
Liked this quote though!

I think we are mostly making arrangements for supply chain disruption first and foremost. The other details we'll sort out as we go along. What I find really silly is the idea that one day we'll wake up and the world will be a radically different place. Like SHTF always happens in an instant.
That has never happened in human history. (The notable exception being personal scale accidents.) Look at any of the big SHTF events in human history and its clear there is lead-time in abundance. The shocking aspect to me is that most people choose to ignore the signs and waste the lead time.
If one has the fundamental gear and skills to get through an extended supply chain disruption most of the other 'specific requirements' can be focused on and solved in the immediate lead-up to a specific event.

Yeah this shits me to tears. It part of the reason I sometimes avoid getting in to discussions about SHTF with other preppers either on forums or during meet ups. What I may be prepping for may not be what you are prepping for.

All the physical preps are useless if you die from obesity, high blood pressure ,lung cancer etc

Considering a number of SHTF scenarios isn't a bad starting point but there's a pretty good chance that when SHTF it will be different from what was expected and an ability to adapt and improvise ... (and quickly) will be important.

So true. The vast majority of preps we make can be useful under any number of scenarios. So what if someone is prepping for it to rain monkeys from the sky? Even in the event of something very different (like an earthquake), they'll still be far better off than someone who spent all their money on a shiny new car and city apartment.
