ok, as ppl in other lifestyles and activities have various activities, lessons etc when having a meet up, and as a few of us were talking about freeze dried foods etc, and as many of us have varying skills, i was thinking, would it be viable to organise something similar? like organise one person to bring a couple of items from one brand, another does another, one teaches knot skills, weapon skills, aquaponics, gardening... gaz could do a field medic type beginner course for example? if we could get it organised, maybe we could all contribute *something* besides our being there (but that would be fine too, im just a big believer in sharing what knowledge we can! ^_^)
i was thinking i could make a few ready to rehydrate/cook meals in a jar and bring some freeze dried fruits/veg from foodstoragedepot.com.au (listing what and where from will help avoid doubling up, lol)
what do you guys think?

Good idea - I've been flicking through the threads as there is one there about a potential meet up later this year. I'll let you know when I find it, or if someone jumps in before I get to it.

love the idea some major issues, are our current locations, budget restrictions, a appropriate site to hold the get together and such
most of the topics covered we share our knowledge openly on this forum, the skills teachable is a different matter
if we can organize something (that tickles interest) a week long camping trip, to a well known location.. (bot bol related) just somewhere nice, that's got a decent rifle club near by (for firearms training/a bit of fun) and maybe a meeting hall so we can socialize more openly about prepping...
to doing classes I'm not really up for that, but sharing practical tips... maybe well received..
(may even be a group inch bag test run idea.. as a lot of questions has been asked of late on bobs, inch and such)

unfortunately many days would not be an option for me, thanks to druggo piece of sheet neighbours who are known for stealing stuff, i was thinking a class not like in school etc, but as everyone here would have SOMETHING theyre good at, that others could learn from, sitting down for 15-30 to show stuff hands on would be a good idea, to make it more structured ensures everyone gets something they want to learn, and they can all walk away with some knowledge they didnt come in with. think, more like wood shop than like math class XD

Hay, NSW was the most mentioned location in the previous discussions ive had with key members.
This location was the most central to all that were interested in attending, the camp area was large enough to accommodate a decent size group. Right on the river, good for both swimming and fishing etc PLUS they have a local SSAA range that accommodates A,B&H
edit: I personally felt it would be a group meet up, nothing formal but a place to get to know each other, share a few meals and openly discuss the basics on prepping in a relaxed environment.

what do you think though Wayne? would we be able to organise a couple of class type things by members to share knowledge? Sorry, i was adding to my post as you typed yours. I think, for the first one it would be better to leave this as a "meet and greet" This way there is no pressure on anyone. A few campfire yarns and open discussions on certain aspects of prepping i think would be a great idea though. In saying this, there was mention of a shoot at the SSAA range and us license holders signing in non license holders so youse can experience first hand firearms and safe use of them etc.

lol I see your point, but logistic wise, we are very spread out, so it would have to be a mini holiday to entice a lot of members (to consider it anyways) there is a planned prepper get together in the USA happening middle of the year, (if only I had the cash lol) but what it is, a camping trip, at a nice site.. that's more about networking than sharing knowledge, but a lot of knowledge will be shared by its nature, and with the group environment, any practical questions can be asked, explained and practiced (and I cant teach soldering and electronic type work at all, unless asked the question, I'm a useless teacher) i see what you would like to do, have a prepper type skills event like they do in the states, numbers and location is always going to be a problem for us

Unfortunately due to the diversity of our members, not all could attend, but,
that isn't to say one couldn't organise a state meet with fellow statelings ( is that a word?), and then have an annual meet for those who can attend, making the annual location different each year to allow far away members a lesser travel time one year.( ie - mid NSW one year, SA next, Qld next, Vic next)

don't get too disheartened, it's a grate idea to float from time to time with lots of input we can iron out issues and if budgets allow it will be a grate trip, a week maybe a bit much for us, but anything can be organised, and if done between this page and it's sister page (or brother idk) it will be a grate little trip

unfortunately i can see it now, there wouldnt be the numbers to do any thing like i was hoping at a state meet :/ I think regardless, the numbers will be small - people have work, families, distance. We could never expect a huge turnout first time round - but if we have 6-10, that's a good turn out. As with the forum, we started small, and are slowly growing. I'd expect the same with the annual meets, starting small, growing year by year. I see that as a positive, not something to be disheartened about. As Aus says, the first one should be a meet & greet, lets get to know each other better, a few beers by the fire, throwing around a few ideas. The lessons etc are a good idea - I think this forum is the place to do this. On the first meet, I for one don't want to have a sit down lesson/class. I wanna chat, meet, fish, drink beer, and talk bs. I think this is a better way to get to know my fellow preppers than in a formal setting.

idk, some things cant be taught effectively over the net period, let alone as a forum, thats why i thought it would be good. dont worry. i was just thinking there are like 24 hours in a day, an hour or 2 per day wouldnt exactly cramp anyones style. i dont even know if i can come for more than one night anyhow, so it actually was a dumb idea

Dont be silly, its a great idea.
What i was thinking, as mentioned above was a more relaxed meet where everyone could meet, chat and just be comfortable around each other and discuss all things prep.
As for educational meets, im all for this also. Like Jay mentioned, it would be more beneficial to do state based meets as these could be multiple yearly events due to less travel distance etc.
Im also a massive "free camping" nut so costs would be minimal which im sure would benefit us all too.

you're been a little silly... it's a awesome idea... some problems have been put forward... to coming for a few days... lets say for argument sake we have this meet up, it goes for 7 days (yep 7) yet you can only be there for 3... I doubt anyone will think less of you, or its organized for a particular week but through other commitments can only make it on day 3.. it's just something that come with group get togethers
