I picked up a pair of brown trousers from 2nd hand shop. Price: $3. They are a name brand and good quality. The colour reminded me of WW2 Soviet infantry. I took them for a test and it turns out they are indeed the right colour and texture of fabric to make rather decent forest camo. I wear them over my jeans. They would also not look out of place being worn around town. Just goes to show the simple things can be very effective. Click to enlarge and play spot the trousers.

From the name of the post, I thought this was heading in a much different direction.

From the name of the post, I thought this was heading in a much different direction. When your white trousers turn brown crap certainly has hit the fan. $3 for a good pair of pants is a good bargain, good for spare clothes to store in the BOV and forget about until SHTF and something happens to your pants.

Good score on the pants......
Earlier this spring I found three, 4X size white denim lab coats. They tie closed like a bath robe. I hung it on an oversize homemade hanger and striped it with paint. Very little flat black, OD flat green, flat brown, grey. Maybe not the best, but not bad for cheap.

Did you leave a couple of lab coats pure white for being out on frozen rivers and lakes?

Did you leave a couple of lab coats pure white for being out on frozen rivers and lakes? >>> Yes.. Two are still pure white. I only painted up the one. NO.... I DO NOT... do frozen river or lake. The rivers here are too deep, fast, unpredictable and outright dangerous for anyone to be on. Some of the lakes have areas that are good to ice fish, snowmobile, and such. Too much of most lakes are spring fed, marsh, and swamp to be out on. Even moose fall through or get bogged down in areas.
>>>>>>> What I plan to do this winter is get some fabric similar to what the lab coats are made of and make a hood, head cover that extends down the back a bit and kind over the shoulders. Maybe fasten the two together a bit with Velcro, and some Velcro to close the cuff of the sleeves a bit.

Thanks for the enlightenment Tim.
After watching 5 minutes of 'Ice Road Truckers' one day I assumed frozen lakes and rivers were the major transport routes of the Canadian wilderness in winter. Is that just for the very far north where its colder?

Spot the secondhand $3 grey-green shirt! Good score... Many times simple, easily available things are better than most specialized clothes. And less expensive...

More fun with cheap brown trousers ... I'm wearing just $6 worth of clothing scratched up from local second hand shop. The second shot is a zoom in of the first.

brown trousers would be great for any upcoming battles in woolies or coles. Never show your fear.
I buy work pants from vinnies and i have a pair that i would not ever sell.

There are so many variables in most any place to make it difficult for a person to camo.. For instance, here we will eventually be loosing snow cover, hopefully, but then bears will be out. So some colors can be a hazard to ware..
Of the reading I've done on camo patterns, many say at one time Rhodesia had the best colors and patterns for THERE use.. Again location, location, location makes a big difference.. In many places what worked well one day would be like neon 2 weeks later..

I used another $3 pair of brown trousers, plus some bits of old grey-green fleecy rag to make a spook mask. Total outfit now at $15. Here is how it looks now. I am about 6 paces from the camera. Click on the photo to enlarge.

If it wasn't for the fact that I could see the camera lens when that shot was taken I'd have assumed I was completely obscured by veg.

"Coyote Brown" and "Flat Dark Earth" or similar are two of my all-time favourite colours for hunting! I'm not really a "camo person" and much prefer plain earthy colours. One of the most effective shades was the classic South African "Nutria Brown" especially when washed and worn and faded. That stuff was shit hot for its specific operational environment. Slight variation in shades in shirts /pants / field gear / webbing etc enhanced the effect.
