Interesting. Perhaps the US and KSA are really waiting to find out what position China and Russia are taking on this. Russia arguably has a lot to gain from a scenario where the straits of Hormuz get shut down - their oil immediately becomes a lot more valuable. And if Putin allows Iran to use their best air defence systems they may get the bonus of enabling a long running conflict that puts serious attrition on KSA/US air warfare capability.

An active hostile Iranian air defence system has a lot of reach and would necessitate quite a bit of suppression effort before allied forces could gain air superiority we've relied on in recent conflict.

And so the kinds of questions we might now ask ourselves are: Are we individually and collectively prepared for a possibility of several years of fuel shortages? How did Australia function last time fuel was a tightly rationed item? How much will our agricultural output decline in an environment of scarce/expensive fuel and an absence of synthetic nitrogen fertiliser and pesticides? Am I fit enough and do we have a stock of consumables (ie tubes and tyres) to allow us to ride bicycles to the places we need to go for several years? Is living a long way from a supply centre now a liability?
A question I might ask myself is: Will our horses finally offer some economic return on investment?
