Modern societal life has a lot going for it, and not just when it comes to conveniences and niceties. The utilities that make our modern existence possible at all- water and sewage service, internet, electricity and others- are positively marvels of engineering and human ingenuity on a grand scale. www.thesurvivalistblog.net/preparing-for-power-blackouts/

A few extra tips I've picked up over the years..
-Keep old coke bottles filled with water in the freezer so it the power goes out they help keep the freezer colder for longer -If you keep spare batteries in the garage, don't leave them on the concrete, they need to have some form of insulation from the concrete, even a piece of cardboard of ply board will suffice -Get your chainsaw serviced and ready to go before storm season starts -Get your fuel supply sorted (most of us have this under control already) because we've all seen the rush on the servos during a blackout that lasts for more then 1 day
