Sad story out of Western Australia. 33 year old Matthew Boyd found dead by search crews after vehicle breakdown in outback 8 days ago. www.9news.com.au/national/body-of-matthew-boyd-missing-in-wheatbelt-wa-found/2625845d-2cd7-459e-9886-a3831d71a74c?ocid=Social-9NewsThis is unfortunately an all too common occurrence in our country. Part of the reason for this I believe is these incidents turn in to nothing afterwards but a footnote. The government doesn't use this as a way to educate the public thru the media about how harsh this country is and how prepared we must be when we travel thru it. When was the last time you saw a government media campaign educating people on travelling safety thru the county side? If this man had died in a motor vehicle accident in the outback he may of gotten an extra comment or two in the story. This death could have been avoided. This story must not go away.

Unfortunately there is the same thing here. Usually in winter, with icy roads and all that goes with that and weather in general.
Even experienced people have problems on the road, breakdowns, in the ditch, you name it, weather does not discriminate.
People out hiking is another bad issue. People going off trail one way or another, getting hurt, weather change isolating them, many other details to many to list.
Bottom line, like said, many issues could be avoided if people would use more discretion in what they do. But they push the limits of there own abilities, ego, and suffer the consequences.
This may sound too blunt or uncompassionate, but there is even a limit to that. Like the saying goes. You can't fix stupid.
My 5 cents of opinion.

Same thing happened to a guy I worked with years ago. Quit work in Sydney to drive trucks in WA. Rig broke down, tried to walk to nearest station, turned back, found his body under a bush. Father of 2.
I guess no amount of taxpayer funded media campaign can overcome some people's stupidity.
Carry water and a sat phone. I do. It's not rocket science.
