Bugger, we don't have Stan. But when I asked, an interesting interaction occurred between UF1 and myself. UF1 is the older stepson, U stands for Useless, you can probably guess what the F stands for.
UF1 is 26, doing his masters in teaching, still supported by Mrs and myself. Not working, basically gets a free ride off the back of other people's hard labour (that be Mrs and myself). One of the rare things he pays for is Netflix. As we use his netflix account, he declared we should pay for Stan, as compensation for us getting a free ride with his Netflix. Seems that the self entitled little a-hole thinks we owe him for buying all his food, putting a roof over his head, paying for the water, electricity and internet he uses.
A typical example of what's wrong with a lot of the younger generation. Proud to say my own two kids are the total opposite of this little turd. But it means I won't be getting Stan out of principle.

Unless there's a real problem like illness, disability etc, no 26 year old should still be living with their parents.

Unless there's a real problem like illness, disability etc, no 26 year old should still be living with their parents. Professional student. And his mother is too soft. But in 5 years we are selling up and moving to our 3 acre block down the coast, and we've made it very clear neither of them are coming with us. I'm hoping they both end up homeless. And Norseman, you should have heard the discussion a few weeks ago about how hard teachers work. I set him straight. Mrs said I sounded just like you. I think the term latte sipping metro f$% got used a few times. Bce1, sorry for the thread hijack, but I needed to vent for my sanity.

You have to be reeeally careful doing that. These mobs make a fortune off people who do that and forget to cancel in time.

My parents are in their 80's, and they live with my wife & I (and our kids). The key point here is that we're supporting and helping them, not sponging off them. I did live in my parent's house until about 30 (or so);p but I worked full time, I did most of the jobs around the house (the folks were starting to struggle a bit), and I paid more than my share of the bills. There's something right (in my mind at least) about helping those in their old age who raised me from childhood.

i lived with my mum in my late 20s when my dad died. i am now closer than ever to her because of it. i had friends who lived at home into their 30s while they rented their house out and smashed their mortgage. i can see an advantage to doing it right.
pushing chicks out to empty the nest is not on my agenda. they can leave when they are prepared.
besides, i live in a big beachside house, they are gonna be here as adults all the time.

There's a big difference in having your child live with you so they can get ahead, and letting them live with you so they can indulge in a lazy, self entitled lifestyle. You can be a loving parent without being soft. Today's case in point: Mrs Frostbite is doing UF2's washing for him (24 y/o), because he has been working most days. But his shifts are only 5hrs. He still seems to have plenty of time to play x-box. He thinks he is doing it so tough. My son regularly works 100hrs a week. THAT is doing it tough. I need to bang on the UF's door and scream HALLWAY when I get up at 0430 every morning. But that is forbidden

LMFAO!! So studying to be a couch pilot for another two decades!! What does this comment mean? tomatoes It means kids should stop f***ing around with useless Taxpayer / Mum / Dad funded University study / degrees and go get a real job in the real world like Carpenter, Plumber, Mechanic, Farmer etc etc! By the way I'm not even pointing the finger at this kid far from it in fact! I'm talking about 80% of all the kids that go to University! When I was in school forty years ago out of 200 kids 20 went on to do year 11 and 12 and of these maybe 6 went to university and maybe 3 got a degree in something useful like DOCTOR! These days most school teachers are leftist propaganda agents who are not interested in educating our kids they are only interested in state sanctioned indoctrination!

Omg. We the same-same. One of my comments during the discussion on teaching last week was 'teachers should educate, not indoctrinate'.

Allowing a man-child to indulge at home isn't doing them any favours. Eventually they WILL have to move out and they won't be prepared for it. At most workplaces you can usually pick out who still lives with their parents due to their less mature demeanour. Those who are prepared to work long hours in trades invariably earn more than those who did fairweather degrees at university. I know one guy who hasn't worked a day in decades. Professional student who knows how to play the system to stay on the government teat by bouncing from course to course. Sounds an easy life? Not unless ending up 60 and still single and renting is your goal.

These days most school teachers are leftist propaganda agents who are not interested in educating our kids they are only interested in state sanctioned indoctrination! Yep. I'd love it if every kid went into trades and doctoring. Our wonderous capitalist system would ensure the competition brought about by market saturation in these professions would reduce the hourly rate paid to tradies to a point that I might actually use one. As it is I find tradies so unaffordable I do all my own work. These days the taxpayers (via Government) and Chinese/Arab investors ultimately pay for most trade work. I regularly tell my kids they should become bridge engineers ... the Government (that is TAXPAYERS) and reserve banks are sure to have a 50 year long list of 'stimulus' projects involving bridge/overpass construction and replacements - no matter how pointless they are. (we had a pointless bridge - over an unused railway- completed last year in our regional centre at taxpayer expense. The main thing was some construction companies made $20 million building it.) I want my kids to get their snout well and truly into the taxpayer funded construction industry. Or failing that ... building apartments or toll roads in Sydney and Melbourne paid for by our super funds. These days a 'real job' that pays well can be something as unorthodox as unwrapping toys on YouTube and getting paid $26 million per year as an 'influencer'. I phucking love capitalism! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan%27s_WorldBut yeah ... it does require putting in the effort to find opportunities and make them work. Sadly farming is increasingly a fools game. Don't recommend anyone getting into it unless they inherit a farm with good equity balance. Good money in being a chemical, fertiliser or machinery salesman though!

@spinifex, agree totally about the bridges thing. The current political fashion is to pour as much money as possible into (often unjustified) politically motivated infrastructure projects. Can anyone think of a government's infrastructure project that got cancelled after it being looked at and deemed not worth it? There may be one but none come to mind. They always fiddle the numbers to suit. The labour rate has absolutely skyrocketed as a result. In my company (often tendering for govt projects), guys just out of an apprenticeship earn more than many managers do. 5 years in and you're on around $200k. Site supervisors are closer to $300k. It's madness and all debt funded. But "get while the getting's good" because when it all comes crashing down when interest rates inevitably shoot back up, there will be a lot of people out of work and with mortgages/rent they can't afford.
