OK... With the shortages of some items, I have read some things about homemade formulas..
For instance.. Homemade hand sanitize... There are many formulas with common ingredients..
The best I have found, and the formula I'm going to try...... First you want a minimum of 60% alcohol in the formula.. So to figure that... If you have 91% rubbing alcohol... Divide 60 by 91 to get getting roughly .957... Times that by 100 resulting in roughly 66%..... With that in mind you will fill your container 66%.. 2/3 the container with your 91% then you can add Aloha Vera, a few drops of essential oil, water what ever you choose.. There are many recipes..
Sweetie has one of those machines that hangs in the shower, you step out, press the button, close the curtain and it sprays cleaner around.. To replace the bottle of cleaner is somewhat expensive, so there are several home recipes..
You get the idea...
Have a favorite recipe... ?? ??

Methyl Bromide! Kills everything from viruses to humpback wales ... and careless operators.
Pity the tree huggers have almost driven it out of use.

www.amazon.ca/Scrubbing-Bubbles-Automatic-Shower-CleanerStarter/dp/B001QJAHIYThis is the machine.. Or similar model.. Have to say it works OK, I guess.. Makes her happy... I don't touch the thing, unless she says it needs batteries.. Again.. There is a homemade formula for the liquid cleaner refill.. If it only works 80% as good, but is 50% or more cheaper than purchased.. Those numbers work out OK by me..

I saw this recipe www.who.int/gpsc/5may/Guide_to_Local_Production.pdfI also read elsewhere that 70% alcohol is about the sweet spot for maximum effectiveness. As the alcohol will take longer to evaporate and have longer contact time to kill bacteria and viruses.

There are a lot of formulas for things.. Especially at this time for hand sanitizer..
To me the easiest formula to use with a wide variety of products will be this..
You want a minimum of 60% alcohol and the recommended is 60-70%... The sweet spot mentioned.. We will use 91& rubbing alcohol as an example.. Divide 60 by 91 then times by 100. This gives you a figure of 66%... Meaning fill your container 66% BY VOLUME... (2/3) with 91% rubbing alcohol, and the 1/3 balance with skin friendly things like aloha vera gel, a few drops of essential oil, and such.
You can use vodka I suppose. That at 80 proof = 40% alcohol, so it seems it would be OK to use strait with a drop or two of essential oil in a small container.. I would only mix up a small amount at first to try.
Happy mixing..

On another forum..... Someone was saying she attempted to make hand sanitizer with vodka...
Problem was it turned out to be jello shots....
I've never tried them, so I suppose that is not all bad..
