Scotty from marketing has inadvertently telegraphed a possible 6 month shutdown:-
"Asked why shopping centres remain open, Morrison says people should only shop for things “that you actually need”. He uses the example of jigsaw puzzles. (Laughing My Arse Off!)
I will give you an example. Our kids are at home now, as are most kids, and Jenny went out yesterday and bought them a whole bunch of jigsaw puzzles. I can assure you over the next few months we will consider those jigsaw puzzles absolutely essential.
It is important that parents and families and households can get the things that they need to completely change the way they are going to live for the next six months at least, and so what we have done is sought to be practical about these issues. I mean, people are buying sporting equipment at the moment – gym mats and things like that – so they can exercise at home. These are things they are going to need."
World is starting to burn and this bloke's missus is out buying 6 months worth of Jigsaw Puzzles for the kiddys!
If this shit goes down for 6 months we are talking Mad Max territory!

As much as the Chinese government likes to say things are back to normal, and I've been back in the office for almost a month, my kids are starting week 8 of online classes today. There was about 20 days of holidays before that, so we're almost 3 months into them not being at school. The schools are now supposedly allowed to reopen next week, but news we get so far is it will only be years 9 and 12 (who have important exams in June) who will be restarting in April. Chances are primary school won't start until May, so 5 months off all up.
So, even though Slomo was saying schools don't need to shut early, maybe he has finally realised that they're probably best shut until everything dies down again. Hence months' worth of games and puzzles.
Who knows what that signals for the wider economy though? As an aside, my sister in law is allowed to take annual leave from her supermarket managerial job over the next fortnight, so maybe they don't foresee any craziness again for a while?

The craziness is over. The locusts have had their fill. At coles at 9am this morning I reckon there were 10 people there. The checkout staff looked bored and were chatting amongst themselves. The shelves are almost completely re-stocked now.

This is why I'm still topping up my pantry from the supermarket, rather than eating into my stores. This may go on for longer than most people expect.

Well the shopping craziness has subdued, and this is probably in large part due to forced buying limits.
But I think we may have a whole lot of different kinds of crazy on the horizon.
Mass job losses, deep recession, people forced to isolate with people they don’t get along with and denied the ability to socialise with the people they do get along with!
Add poverty, racial tensions, fear, drugs, alcohol, stupidity and antisocial or criminal tendencies to the mix. We’ll see.

Drugs is a big one. What happens when all the local supplies dry up and the junkies can’t get their fix? Almost like a total forced rehab. It could be a good thing in the long run?
We have a good supply of food at the IGA. There was some TP!
I’m working from home and all the normal BS is absent from my job. I really feel for those less fortunate but i’m having a much better time of my work. The missus is getting a job out of this, i feel conflicted but we spent so many hard years in remote areas to make this happen i can’t stop smiling. I intend to help others if need be, gotta share the love.

We have only closed boarders for people, not goods.... Maybe acid laced TP and face mask??

Worst case scenario??
The virus slows down here, we get complacent, then it explodes come July/August. The US is crippled financially, and the health system is overwhelmed with those dying - I'm saying over 1,000,000. Before the election, Trump ramps up the anti Chinese rhetoric, but, before the election itself.............. A North Korean missile goes "off course", and slams into either a South Korean or Japanese city. The US response is quite tame, and China senses a weakness;
NK invades South Korea, China attacks Taiwan, Philippines allow Chinese troops to "protect" her, and use her as a staging point for attacking other nations, to increase her power in the Asian Pacific area. Australia is bombed, and forced to become neutral.
US gets it's butt kicked all over the Pacific and Middle East ( a large majority are virus infected ).
Chinese "advisors" are allowed into Aus to ensure our neutrality.
Red Dawn III is based on my lifelong struggle against the invaders.
Russia sits back, allowing the US & China to duke it out, then she becomes the only major world power after they both beat the crap out of each other, and lose most of their influence.

IMO this pandemic will be a non-event for most of us. Plenty of calories in the shops, even if some lines are empty. Meat, fruit and veg back in abundance. Anyone who has lost their job will be getting decent money off the government. We might have some of our civil liberty temporarily curtailed, but overall almost all of us will come out the other side unscathed.

At a local medical meet last night the plateau peak of cases is expected to be 8to18 weeks from- pushed back as we are socially isolating Still going to be a lot of pain and we are looking at 6 months shutdown and a bankrupt economy in huge debt Italy’s lockdown is starting to cause social unrest As a prepper you always prepared for this but it’s still a shock when it happens This moment will enter the history books!

Just managing to hang on to my job at the moment. The aftermath is what concerns i.e. what policies and laws that will get passed with the virus as the excuse. WAPOL already using drones to check on people, it wasn't planned beforehand. Eh, right!

Our little primary school (35 odd students) has told us to prepare to be homeschooling for the whole of next term as well, and we are only in week 9 of first term. They are putting everything in place now so that it will run ok when school starts in term 2. Not sure if this is being directed by the Education department and they know that things will not go back to normal for a long time, or is just our school being super prepared.

It could be a good thing in the long run? +++++++++ I see this in the long run as BAD, BAD, BAD.... Dopers running around with a knot in there gut doing all manor of bad crap.. Many innocents getting hurt just for being in there path..
A number of US cities have announced they were not going to respond to many crime calls. Seemingly low grade things to them. Home invasion, thefts, and not sure what all.. You also can just about guess which cities these are by looking at a list of declaring themselves as illegal alien sanctuary cities.. Will there be a rise in the number of incidents of people taking care of there own homes, shops, families, etc ?? With media as they are, we may never know..
