Xi Jinping has said he will "take care of the Taiwan issue" before the end of his second term, which ends in 2023 (although he already abolished term limits so he can be president for life). Apparently the government has banned students from returning to Taiwan once their lockdown finishes, "for their own safety".

The Taiwan government has been warning for months that they expect military provocations or more sabre rattling this year and are on high alert.
