Had a sort of sad and also interesting conversation with one of my daughters. Off to university next year - not 100% sure what she wants to do, but considering medicine or environmental engineering.... We were talking about university and she spontaneously said " if the world does go to shit in the next 10 years, I will come home and be your apprentice" - and had clearly thought about it in some detail... I was impressed she has thought about it, but it did make me sad that it was even on her radar - I have tried to raise all my kids with a preparedness bent - but her view of the world seemed more dire than mine.....

Mate
My consistent fear was painting too dark a picture of the future for my kids, now I'm kind of glad I did but with a tinge of regret that I felt the need to do so.

I prep so my kids don't have to. But they turned out pretty capable of looking after themselves regardless.

Things going on at the moment - pandemic, etc - seem to have made some in that late teens/early 20s age group feeling a bit like the world might change and things may not always be easy. Some are also feeling as though this time now doesn’t “count” (no need to study/work hard). Quote from someone who was being a bit tongue in cheek but whose behaviour showed there was some belief in it “The world’s going to end anyway, so what’s the point.”

Had my 16 yr old daughter ask me about what she should look for in her first home and about additional security and food stores and if she had to share house while at Uni , I just told her if shit went south while she at uni then pull the pin and just come home. Told there’s little to zero chance of keeping preps in a shared house ...
