You are driving along in your car and it stops for whatever reason! Could be an EMP or a solar flare or something else! You decide you will have to hike it home, but you have a child with you and it will be a long hike back! A younger child can not walk the distance and the going will be slow. Now if you have a baby or toddler you probably already have a pram or stroller in the car. If your children are out of these but still young enough to be pushed in one (I think any child up to six years old or even older) it would be a good idea to keep a stroller in the car! They are not all that expensive either. If you need to go across rough ground then they are not too hard to fold up and be pulled along while your child walks for a while.

another good idea for people with babies and young ones is babywearing. for one it keeps them safe and close, and keeps your hands free! my personal favourite is the Ergo, and single piece of fabric carriers like the moby, (i made my own!) ^_^ it does have several other pros too, so well worth looking into (i still carry my 3 year old!) its only western cultures who have abandoned the practice btw! id say about the same time as when we stopped breastfeeding as part of the norm....
