A great film on the benefits of covering the soil. This film started a movement in the US gardening with woodchips. I use woodchips because I live in an area where this is a free resource.

Yeah he is a bit "preachy" but in areas where wood chips are available they are a great way to build soil. I have an area on another property I bought initially as a possible BOL. I dumped 7 loads in one area and just let rot on top of ground about 2 feet deep. Great possible future garden site if needed down the road. I have several areas on this property where I use a deep mulch of them for weed control makes a huge difference in soil over time.
