Does anyone follow Jake Cassar? He’s in NSW and regularly runs bush food and other survival courses. I noticed that his last ones focus on finding plant food but if that’s not your thing, don’t be turned off by that, normally he has plenty of fish, meat, grubs, etc! One of the things about him that gives credibility is that he regularly goes out bush for quite long stints and takes pretty much nothing. He documents these trips through a Facebook page. I don’t think it’s his regular one so you have to watch for when he’s going to see how to follow. Another thing to make him worth following is that he does quite a lot of work with youth eg taking teens who need a bit of grounding out bush. www.facebook.com/groups/centralcoastbushtucker/?ref=sharewww.facebook.com/jakecassarbushcraft/

I attended his course and found it to be a good practical extension to what I have been reading about Australian bush foods. He added a bit more medicinal focus which I thought useful and he also injects some handy bushcraft skills. He's obviously a bit of a prepper. I did the one day course. I think I'll do some more hands on with bush foods in my area (3 hours away from his area, and different environment) and then go back and do the 2 day course.

I also did a workshop in Sydney a few years ago with Diego - www.diegobonetto.com/shop. This was at a park and the focus was more on weeds than bush food. It was very good, and we tasted lots of different plants that we had often seen without realising they were edible and nutritious.

Good to see something that's for where people actually live. Most of this stuff is usually focussed on northern Australia. Southern NSW and Vic rarely get a mention.
