OK... So I was doing things in the big garage a week or so ago, and who should come around looking at me other than Mr Long Tail Weasel... They are about head and body the size of an average banana, but very capable of killing a grown chicken or rabbit..
Live trap and canned cat food was what it took to "take care of business"
After our first snow, I saw tracks around the garden planters that are next to the chicken house... Again the live trap and bait "took care of business" in the chicken house vestibule..
While in town today, an area along a hill side, street where a school and ball fields are, and where the highways cross there is a coincidental green spaces 3 ways away from there... Lurking along the trees I noticed a cross fox there.. Must be a lot of cats in the residential area next to there.. The fox likely moved down the hill from where there are a lot of missing cat posters in that area...
People never seem to learn...
At least with the snow, I have to presume bears are denned up now... They den up on the changes in food supply.. Not weather, length of sunlight, or other presumed reasons..

Weasels are turds. They will chew their way into your house and then chew out the seal on your fridge and have a party in there.

Yes... Ozzy is quite cute and from info from people I have known who had this type pet, quite high maintence to keep.. If that is what you want, and willing to be responsible for, enjoy..
Unfortunately, like said, his northern, wild cousins can be quite destructive..

1 May 2021.......... Finely enough snow melt I could get up on the upper big pasture with a rifle and UTV... On the sunny side of things we are starting to get a bit of green grass and mouse ear leaves on the bush.. The shady side still has snow banks that give off fog as they try to melt..
Up on the pasture that is above the swamp and pond, I see where an adult moose left tracks in the soft ground.. Also see where a bear left a steamer near the brush pile up there.. Likely spent the winter in the brush pile.. I need to get a trail cam up there to see what is going on for sure..
So with bears starting to come out, that means no more bird seed for the spruce and ruff grouse that have lived around the buildings over winter.. Tis the season..
