Bugger. This morning I lent my daughter a book about the Thai cave rescue of those young soccer players, and then recounted a story about my own near death experience in a cave in NZ a few years ago. We were on this glow worm guided cave adventure, and it was all very dark and beautiful and kinda romantic, but as we were exiting the cave, on our way through the mandatory souvenir kiosk, the wife says "so you enjoyed that, did you?' In a sort of sarcastic tone. This caught me by surprise, so I asked wtf she mean't by that. Well apparently in the pitch darkness on the metal walkways inside the cave, somehow Mrs Frostbite, who had been right beside me, got pushed aside by a very attractive and very blonde backpacker, which went totally unnoticed by me, even whilst I was wrapping my arms around her, thinking it was actually Mrs Frostbite I was cavorting with, who by this stage was staring in disbelief from a metre or so away. I have no idea what the backpacker was thinking, in the darkness she must have thought I was her boyfriend.
Anyway, my prediction for 2021: more covid outbreaks, more temporary lockdowns, a gradual recovering of the economy, an ineffective vaccine, more turmoil in the US, China continuing to exert it's power in the region, and a gut feeling that Putin will lose his grip on power.

Bitcoin raging ahead as institutional investors buy in and confirm that it has gone mainstream. It was $25k AUD a month ago, AUD 31.5K today and I'm guessing it will be something eye watering before the end of 2021.

Trump will convince the US congress to re-elect him and there will be riots and economic collapse...

No ethics, no restrictions, no care, no consequences = whatever.

Landfills everywhere continue to swell with ever shittier, disposable consumer goods designed and constructed to fail in increasingly short time-frames.
CCP realises it really messed up with its economic assault on Oz, attitudes change and our raw materials and luxury goods begin flowing into their country again.

I predict.... ??
With the test phases of covid and the 2nd wave tests... Closing local small businesses... Crunching the HUGE numbers of the online shopping season...
I predict more restrictions on people, travel, local businesses, you name it... It was just too profitable for them to not let things continue as they have..
Covid vaccine will be 10% - 20%.. effective, likely no more or less than the usual fall flu shot has been over the years.. It may have a higher percent of consequences for some than the yearly flu shots.. But these numbers will be acceptable in the overall picture when balanced with the profits made on the vaccine..
For us in the far north... The triple carbon tax by 2030 or sooner will add an estimated $.52 per liter to all fuels.. Not everyone has bus service or mono rail transport available like the condo dwellers who dreamed this all up at the local Starbucks ...spit... and support it...
Trump seems to be still making the correct decisions.. He did sign the latest US stimulus bill ($600 per person) but can object, line veto (?) the pork parts of the bill.. Will that make it all fall apart ?? Will it all die on the vine ?? Will objections get passed over and all pushed through ??
Will there be more things like the bombing in Nashville TN US ?? Supposedly that ATT complex got a contract to study voter machines and software fraud from some of the more suspicious places in the US.. Will we see US domestic terrorism filter down to more and more targets as individual and small groups push there own agendas ??
Will domestic terrorism by local groups start pushing there agendas by more forceful means around the world ??
Strap on your spurs, tighten your seat belts, what ever it takes as it is bound to be a rough expensive ride through 2021...
My 5 cents of opinion...... So far....

Australian second wave. All of us in a holding pattern. Probably people being pissed off that it's happening again. Probable economic decline. I expect the 'us and them' mentality to thrive from all directions. Hopefully more local support for smaller businesses etc. and the expectation that we need to find different international trading partners. I'm crossing my fingers that we as a nation open up more local manufacturing/growth opportunities and become less reliant on international partners, but I'm not expecting it.

Have you been visited by your local covid-19 marshal yet?

Nah. Not in a plague-sharing place at the moment. But we don't need gov marshals, my workplace is all over that without needing to be told. Apparently unlike the rest of the damn country and idiots who feel like they 'deserve' to get together in mass groups and lick each other's eyeballs to share an illness for fun.
