Is this the best place for this ?? ?? - - - - - -
Today.... Two people were bitten by coyotes in and around parks, trails and such in the Vancouver ...spit... area..
Two coyotes were euthanized in the last couple days before these last 2 bites..
It seems there may have been a total of about 12 to 20 total bites recently ...
Police and other authorities are closing parks, trails, and PLEADING WITH THE PUBLIC to NOT use these areas and to STOP FEEDING these predators...
Do you see stupidity oozing to the surface here... ?? ??
Maybe some of Darwin showing through ?? ??
DUH.... Now you know what we in the bush are up against dealing with predators when places like this vote "feel good" just because they have the numbers to do so, but don't usually suffer the consequences of that... Well, seems they are getting a "taste" of nature... Or nature is getting a "taste" of them for once.....
One coyote says to the other.... No, it doesn't taste like chicken, more like kale...chuckle... Sorry, couldn't resist the bad joke...
DON'T get me started...

Is it because of increased feeding by humans alone or are there other underlying problems like a lack of game or has there been an increase in rabies cases?

We have the same problem with dingoes on Fraser island. The dingoes have no fear of humans in some camp areas and every now and then a kid gets bitten etc. Dingoes are good scabs and will hang around for a easy feed from campers or their waste. My brother nearly lost his camp frying pan to a dingo in the NT. he was lazy and left it out after cooking. He awoke to the sound of scrummaging and jumped out of his tent to see a dingo running off with a pan in its mouth. He gave chase for 200m before it dropped it. It’s numbnuts like him that add to he problem.

A few weeks ago I had just ended a conversation with a member here about my Feral Dog "problem" when we both looked down the hill and eyeballed one sitting next to my front gate!

And if it hadn't become 'latte sipper' valley, that dog would now be a nice pair of slippers. The enemy are just outside your wire, mate. Hold fast.

Another "incident"..... In the same general area of Vancouver ...spit... where the other coyote bite incidents happened, a guy was riding his electric scooter along the asphalt trail when a coyote hit him and knocked him off the scooter.. Several coyotes nipped and bit him with little injury buy tearing clothes and such.. He yelled for help and someone came along and ended the attack..
So now authorities are saying don't go to the park alone or near dusk or dawn, only in full day light.. All because people were feeding them in the park..
The best method I have "heard" of is to use a large dog size live trap.. Place the trap on top of a paper plate with canned dog food. This in front of the door release pad. Or hang a piece of fried chicken to the top of the trap, again in front of the door trip pad... When the trap is full... Cover the trap with an old blanket, replace the trap with another baited trap, moving the full trap to a place where you can "take care of business".... Or so that is how the rumor I heard goes...
