Hi, I am trying to create a design resource for building a bushfire vault and would appreciate any suggestions that people can offer. I decided that an above ground bunker would be easier to build and have decided on lightweight concrete for the walls. The door still needs work. The basic design can be found here www.bushfirevault.com

An admirable project you have there Quark. I like simple, proven solutions. So one or more sections of large, square, reinforced concrete road culverts with the ends bricked up then buried under a mound of soil would be my approach. A brick 'vestibule' around the door would be a nice touch to reduce radiant heat penetration. One might decorate the earth mound with nice landscaping rocks and a thick layer of 50mm aggregate 'mulch' and grow succulent plants over the surface provide extra thermal insulation. www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/kempsey/building-materials/concrete-box-culvert/1260099004
