There were sod all Japanese when we went to Cairns a few years ago. Even that Japanese mall thing was quiet.
Australia is very expensive for Japanese in recent years. Used to be the other way around. The Chinese don't seem interested in Cairns. They mainly go to Vic and NSW, which is where they buy property. Presumably the two are linked.

Mate you don't see too many Chinamen wanting to go snorkeling, diving or game fishing on the reef! Matter of fact most of em won't even go for a swim in the Hotel Pool on a hot day! Those cheap arse package tours they run with don't even give em a day boat ride out to the coral! |

Spoke to the guy who has the military museum west of Cairns. He said the Chinese tours wouldn't come to his museum unless he paid the operators a kickback to bring the tour bus there.

Exactly mate that's why Chinese mass tourism was a load of bullshit from the very start ! Only Australian Dickhead Politicians believed they were spending hundreds of millions in Oz for the benefit of Australians. The reality is all the airlines, bus companies, tour companies, restaurants, hotels, shops etc. etc. were all owned and operated by the Chinese! At the end of the day all the money was being funneled back to China or into Chinese controlled onshore entities! Most of the time they didn't bother with any currency exchange but ran with a voucher scheme that offered huge discounts for exclusive use in Chinese owned stores and hotels etc. They even used Chinese based Credit Cards while raping all our Supermarkets for Baby Formula the day before flying home on a Chinese owned 747 !! |
