I dont know about you guys, but when i can, i love a hot shower. With the shower at one end of the house and the hot water tank on the other, it can take a little bit to warm up. Enter being on tank water and you dont want to waste it.
Ive always showered with a bucket on the ground. Putting it in the centre and not completely covering the drain, i will collect upwards of 5l just to get the shower water to temp. Leave it in for entire shower, 10l easy. This water is then transferred into watering jugs to water all the plants i can.
The reason why i still let water down the drain is this feeds out septic tank which intern waters the rest of the garden with its gray water pump. I find it petty hand since the dam is empty, which was used to water all the gardens.

Welcome. Empty dam? is that even possible in Australia at the moment? I'm the same with out tank water as well as all the wasted gas to heat up that length of water in the pipe that gets wasted as it cools.

A fair few years ago I remember getting a brochure for a diverter. I can't recall the brand but it think it worked like a car thermostat. It diverted cold water back to a tank or in to the cold water plumbing. Once the hot water hit the diverter, it closed off the path to the cold water and fed the hot water on to the tap/shower. If I find any info, I will post it.

We run the cold hot water shower water into a bucket then give it to the animals. The toilet is flushed with dam water, even though it tends to stain the bowl. the shower, sinks etc feed the septic tank as normal.
What part about NO did you not understand ?
