I get the impression from the many posts I have read on this site that the overall majority are intending to bug-In, post long term event.
This is all good until a situation evolves where you need to leave your loc - quickly.
Any one of a dozen reasons could be the cause - Bushfire, Flooding, Pandemic, Hostile Zombie Hoards, Social Unrest and Rioting, an Invasion are just a couple of possible reasons - there are more.
Do you have sufficient stores that are ready at a moments notice to be grabbed and go with? (This will most likely be on foot also - don't assume you will have access to a vehicle to Bug Out In).
Do you have sufficient knowledge to survive and thrive with a minimum of your stores with you, as they now belong to others? (Going 'bush' for a lengthy period, essentially is very taxing both physically and mentally - (I have lost anywhere up to 6kgs during these training exercises and this is when I was in acceptable physical condition - now I shudder at how much it would knock me around. I would be relying more on my stealth and bush skills more so I reckon than the physical part).
So Basically - you are now starting from scratch with only what you can carry.
Preparing is essentially being ready to adapt to any or all scenarios you might face - with no prior warning at all often being the case.
Are YOU ready?

im in the same boat as Jay, as im in a rural area, and a reasonably out of the way town at that, i know that we arent on anyones priority list, whether for aid or attack that gives me the advantage of time in civil unrest etc, i can give it a few days to see how things pan out. if i need to bug out, i will have close to a day as opposed to an hour and im in a good area regarding weather events, floods very very very (like once in 100 years) rarely come even near my house, and im not right on the outskirts of town
