Ultimately I think that's bluff and bluster. Scomo has already clearly articulated that we're not going nuclear for weaponry. Nuclear vessels are different. Although I'm no Armo, I have NO idea how nuclear vessels translates to weapons. China knows that, and they know that no matter how much they squeal about it they don't have a diplomatic leg to stand on and that's where they like to fight until they've used up every other option.
There's not a great deal they can do about it beyond popping off in their own media about how we've escalated blah blah blah. Although I don't think they'll even do that too much to be honest, because it's a pretty clear message that the US is just as committed to the area as they are the friendship between the two countries. Frankly, I'm interested to see what the Global Times does in the next few days. I'm anticipating some vapid ranting at best.

norseman ... mate, they really wont, ever. A boomer (SSBN) is a much bigger boat than an SSN, design of the hull to incorporate launch tubes is fundamental. It like saying a Hyundai getz could be retrofitted as a Dodge Ram... aint happening (sorry). As for what may happen with an encapsulated missile launchable from a Mk48 Torpedo tube ... might be more options there someday. Yep! SSMN with HE, CW (Chemical) and Nuke warheads is what would make China very reluctant to touch us ... provides the ability to deliver varying amounts of oblivion to an aggressor. From popping carriers and other warships with precision HE warheads ... to fuming out amphibious invasion forces with CW or roasting cities with nukes. All the nukes go in one flotilla for deployment way out in the blue water ... and chem and HE mixed in across the rest of the subs for use nearer our shores. Maritime attack jets with precision weapons systems would be useful too ... but ... SSBN's are number 1 for true national defence.

I'm sure the CCP's feelings are hurt by now since we know how incredibly tender they are. I haven't heard a response from them yet ? Probably busy typing up a new list of trade sanctions and dictating a new letter of demands to send to channel 9. CCP is all over the news saying it will break our non-nuclear proliferation treaty and cause more instability in the region, talking it up as if they will be armed with nuke warheads Yeah, the CCP rhetoric is laughable when you consider that they are actually the ones building nuclear missile silos and infringing on foreign territories. They are the epitome of being two faced. This sub purchase and all the rest that goes with it, especially Tomahawks will probably have been quite a shock to the CCP in terms of actual materiel pushback against their expansionism. It will actually give them something they have to account for in any future action.

And the CCCP is taking over the world by stealth, by buying it out one country at a time. Wake up Australia, we are being sold off to China. No need to nuke us and they will own the land anyway, so they wont hurt what they already own.
Reminder to me. I am of average intelligence, therefore 50% of people are dumber than me.

Reminder to me. I am of average intelligence, therefore 50% of people are dumber than me. With recent news about the collapse of the property development company in China (and the related dominos falling from this collapse), then it is feasible that many Chinese owned properties in Australia may need to be sold off in order to get some cash. This collapse may have one good thing for Australia - although, there are negative issues that may pop up too which could prove detrimental for us too.
