With frost on the grass and -1c at first light today... Lately I have seen a number of videos on growing plants from store fruits, seeds..
The one thing I tried was to get Bing Cherry seeds to sprout.. Saw a video, freeze seeds, thaw and plant.. I tried a number of different ways to do this to include just eating the cherry, spit out the seed and cover with dirt.. Nothing worked... But then ...I'm the definition of "black thumb"...

I've seen quite a few pop up on my feed like this lately. I've stuck with buying heirloom breed seeds but I saw a video where a guy sprouted some dragonfruit seeds. I wouldn't mind giving that a go, they seem relatively easy to keep alive haha.

I have grown some fruits and veggies from seeds out of fresh fruit. I think stone fruit has probably been the easiest for me. I grew a wild peach or Indian peach from seeds years ago and have kept it going for decades. I put the pits in dry peat and put it in the freezer for a winter to mimic the freezing and thawing of a winter cycle then removed it and cracked the outer seed covering to reveal a core that resembled an almond. Planted that and grew them with success. Now they just come up under the tree and in my compost and I dig them up.
I have grown the native pawpaw from seed also. Have grown pineapple from the tops. Have used store bought dried beans as seeds in a pinch also. My plum seeds sprout in the compost all the time.
One year I had a heck of a time getting bell pepper seeds. Went to the grocer and bought a fresh one and split it and took the seeds out and planted them straight out of the fruit. Best pepper crop I ever had.
SO when in doubt and especially maybe in a survival situation what the heck. Go for it!
