Recent events, Nationally, State, and even here, have got me thinking. We can't shy away from politics, and we won't, just taking it in another direction.
So my question is - what Govt policies ( and I mean not just Federal, but State and even local Council policies ) either enhance or hinder your preparedness? I know some counties in Florida, USA, make it illegal to collect rainwater in tanks, some places it is illegal to grow your own vegetables.
This isn't a Govt bashing thread, but a place to discuss policies from all forms of Government that are good or bad for your preparedness!

Government overreach nowadays is everywhere. We live in a permission society where you need permission from the government to do just about anything. I believe we need less government and more common sense!

Off the top i believe the electoral process and elected official governance is flawed. Someone said “why don’t you run for a seat” or something similar on another thread. The costs to do so prevent sensible Joe to have a fair crack let alone the actual process of registering etc. Simplify this process, allow Joe or Josephine to have a platform to launch a campaign from the ground level.
Remove all political “donations” Treat white collar crime as an actual crime with real time behind bars for the bad boys. Example Eddie obeid. 3 yrs gaol for millions in crime is a joke. Let men be men and boys be boys. Bring back manufacturing. Put tariffs on imports that use slave labour etc so we can compete again. Stop making/importing cheap crap that breaks. Stop importing cars we can’t work on. Spend $ on supporting our own innovations and develop them into Aussie businesses. Reduce the non contributors our society unless they are self funded. Don’t implement the “big australia” policy. replace global mega monopolies with local alternative. Stop selling so much iron and coal. Use it to make stuff here. Don’t listen to the carbon guilt being applied to Australia. Stop the fear of litigation from ruining local public events. Speed up deportations of imported rotten eggs. Go all oit Chinese on kids access to devices and gaming. Get rid of all the bloody gambling ads on TV. Open areas for more public access and use. there’s more!
Lost, common sense is not common and while i get what you are saying careful what you wish for.

Start with tearing up all UN policies that we have been signed up to stunt our ability to manufacture and have heavy industries and force us into "green energy" for a start. Qld government has cracked down hard in recent years on the agriculture sector with green tape and introduced a new tax for farmer that any and all dams must have a water meter on them so that they can be taxed on how much rainwater they use from their dams. I'm not too sure on other states, but about a decade ago, Qld also reduced the min lot size to build hoses on so that these days modern houses are shoehorned into tiny plots with no backyards for use to grow fruit trees/veggie gardens in any more.

Lost, common sense is not common and while i get what you are saying careful what you wish for. I agree, just an off hand remark. What do you mean by "careful what you wish for" Less government now or for more egalitarian common sense?
Either way, this age or time in history is one that is going to probably end in mass destruction for all at some point in the not too distant future.
You cant fix stupid!

Make Laws to prevent Politicians using State and Federal Police Organisations as tools of intimidation to silence legitimate criticism and / or suppression of Australian Citizens entitlement to "Free Speech" and "Free Movement" !

Mm. The "minimum lot size for houses" is a big one - if the basic block is 328m2 and most of that is a small house, that's not really conducive to being able to grow anything or provide for yourself. It matters - not because preppers can't just buy an acre each, but because if joe and jane average are producing absolutely nothing it makes it harder on everyone else that they're dependent on.
Having properly funded police over here is helpful. Relatively tame protests aside, we get less riots and looting than the US if the news is accurate... I like living in a country where there isn't mass looting nearly ever.

It makes it very hard to prep when the Govt shuts shops for 90 days in lockdown and you can't even get essentials like animal feed . Its always a readjusting of what you need to store after these massive lockdowns in Auckland . Not sure how bad it got in Oz but in NZ we couldn't get ammo , animal food , hardware etc , basically only food from the supermarket and fuel was available . Now the Govt is planning lockdown zones of Covid hotspots which will equate to the same as above if those areas contain the essentials you require. Lots to think about.

From what I can see, all the major problems that are cropping up are a direct result of governments intervening in different areas. Deliberate spiking of inflation. Deliberate global energy crisis. Deliberate shipping crisis. Deliberate destruction of entire industries. Recurring disruption of work force and logistics. Muzzling the health sector during a pandemic... the list goes on.
My old reasons for prepping were varied: natural disasters, unemployment or financial trouble, maybe some minor social unrest. Now I am focused on just one thing: surviving our government.
And I don't mean this in any partisan way either, they are all in on it. It's global.

Besides the usual family quarrels, I can't think of any large negative consequence that has been caused to me by anyone other than our own government. It is they, not criminals, not terrorists, not communists who are and have always been the biggest threat to my quality of life.

WEF has a handy list of their Young Global Leaders alumni. These are basically the chumps they push to do their bidding, and are in turn raised to power in various places. The list itself is located at www.younggloballeaders.org/community?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=&status=alumni&class_year=§or=®ion=#results (try cutting a pasting rather than clicking to avoid tracking) It is worth knowing who these people are (especially the "public figure" sector) so you can tell what the WEF agenda is by their positions. Notable public figure alumni include the current prime ministers of Canada, NZ, Belgium and president of France. All countries pushing hardline for vaccine passports and mandates. This is an example of how you can discern the WEF agenda by looking at what these alumni say in unison. And if anyone thinks this is crazy conspiracy talk, here is Klaus Schwab bragging about "penetrating" governments:

My reasons are what yours used to be too only with the inclusion of 'surviving govt ineptitude regarding those situations'. I agree. I think it doesn't matter which team you're batting for, at the end of the day they're all squabbling for power between themselves. I'm probably not like most here. I think that the majority of politicians that don't come from large, established political families actually get into it with good intentions at heart. But I also think that the absolute vast majority of those people also get jaded or chewed up and spat out by the good old boys system very quickly and lose their edge when we need them to have it the most. But at the end of the day we can only act on the things that we control. So I prep for natural disaster, unemployment or financial trouble, social unrest... And some 1950's era dude telling me to get back in the kitchen and not think my pretty little head on big scary world problems. 😏

And if anyone thinks this is crazy conspiracy talk, here is Klaus Schwab bragging about "penetrating" governments: --- --- And it seems it goes much deeper than this....
A bit of info that, to me, speaks volumes about government today... A few days ago, from an alternate news source, NOT one of the "trusted media" agencies, I ran across a short utube of some official from Bank of Canada telling about a new policy change there...
When a reporter asked a question this official said, near as I can quote ...I will not take a question from ..fill in the name of that media... as they are on the black list.... Obviously this media was NOT one of the "trusted media" group...

There's been a massive shift in media over the last year. They only ask 'friendly' questions now that allow politicians to say the things they want to say. I haven't seen a single piece of investigative journalism from any mainstream media source in that time. It is only coming from independent sources.

Yes, TNI. The Trust News Initiative. They claim to be fighting fake news, but really it is just collaboration to set the dominant narrative.
Again, no conspiracy, they do it fully out in the open.
Same as all the media bailout money being funnelled into the legacy media companies. All out in the open. But what it effectively means is the government is the customer, not the reading/listening public.

Have seen interviews cut short when the guest asks a question on many occasions. In contrast, there are no questions at all asked of the government.
