I have made a similar "stew" a lot of times..
Of course there are endless variations.. A tin of store brand Spam equivilant, cut into small cubes.. Browned and fine chopped ground beef.. Also to make more of a stew a small pot of spaghetti broke into 1" pieces before cooking... A bag of frozen mixed veggies.. Season a little and surprisingly my kids would eat it.. I still make it once in a while..

I don't know if the tinned corn beef we have available is British or American style ?? Still works well..
