So.... It is near 17;00 hours Pacific here... On the latest CBC news report from the west coast here, Vancouver ...spit... is implimenting on 01-01-22 some things they had to pospone from 01-01-21....
This 2 new rules being no more single use plastic shopping bags, and $.25 charge for single use drink cups... Saying this is to encourage people to use reusable cups... How well will reuseable cups go over with the Covid fanatics.... ?? ?? NOT well I can only imagine... Will the germ fenatics start exploding ??
The no plastic bag rule will have the option of buying a paper bag, or buying a reuseable bag.. How long will paper bags last in Vancouver rainy, wet weather.... ?? My guess is about 1/4 the way to the electric car.. Some retailers have concerns with seniors and low income shoppers having to buy $3-$5 (?) reuse bags... But it seems the greenies will not be denied another year...
Also... Canada chief medical officer saying to the affect if you have normal cold, flu symptoms and are improving, you don't need continuing Covid tests... Self isolate as best you can and mask, near as I could catch the broadcast... This likely to disapoint the every sneeze needs a test group...
My daily sarcasm..

We have had the no single use bag rule here for awhile. It will take you awhile to remember to bring reusable ones. Otherwise you have to buy them. However in saying that, at our shop, we offer free single use bags still.
I either remember to bring bags or empty the trolley into the boot. Depends how well my brain is working or if its an unplanned shopping trip.

In Australia you take your bags withy you when going shopping leave a few in the car.
Covid rules in Australia have dramatically been walked back. I got a pos covid test today, All I have to do is isolate for 7 days no further testing if there are no ongoing symptoms after the 7 days.
During the previous lockdowns in NSW Australia it got to like 2,000 infections a day now it is +22,000 a day, system is overwhelmed.
Omicron variant is going to save the world from covid. The 1918 Spanish flu killed 57million and was beaten as it evolved into a much more infectious strain without deadly symptoms, exactly what southern Africa has given us with Omicron variant - vaccinations are just delaying the solution.

The biggest thing I hate about these no plastics rules is the straws. I hate paper straws. They are all soggy and close up when you suck before you finish the drink That and the bamboo spoons maccas gives out with sundaes. I can't taste delicious processed icecream anyone, just that state of wood :cry emoji: lol

For anyone who wants plastic cutlery for BOB or just EDC, IKEA make some really good stuff. Strong, lightweight and heaps better texture than any of the metal camping stuff you can get. The only problem with them is that you have to watch when cooking with them - their melting point is pretty low...to be expected with plastic I guess...

Since I couldn't buy the $1 bags of plastic knives and forks from coles anymore for taking to work, I ordered a set of Ka-bar plastic spork/knife set and it's very good. The knife part is pretty much a steak knife and they clip into each other for storage. Handy for the BOB or to keep in the car www.ebay.com.au/itm/163830091149?epid=2161780575&hash=item262508cd8d:g:d7sAAOSwgJtdX0EA&frcectupt=true

Spatial- hope you recover quickly!
Tim, this stupid bag thing has been going on in WA state as well. One thing I do, I will put a laundry basket or two in the back of my outback and then load my groceries into it from the cart. They sell these hardier plastic bags (like that makes it better). I have a few trader joe's totes but I always forget to bring those it seems.

I quite like the rule. Those plastic bags would break all the time and can't carry heavy items. The re-usable ones are great. You can put 10+kg in each of two re-usable ones, instead of trying to get your hands through the ten plastic bags that it takes to hold the same weight.

I also HATE, HATE the paper straws... It is only a couple times a summer I really enjoy a cup of A&W root beer, but the damn paper straw wrecks like mentioned before I can get it down.. I don't tolerate any carbonated drink well, so am very slow to finish a cup... Then they advertise like they are saving the world single handedly with paper straws... Admittedly... That is a problem with plastic bags as they won't hold much with out failing.. We have, use regularly a number of the green or purple grocery totes, all from garage sales or thrift stores... www.presidentschoice.ca/product/pc-green-reusable-grocery-green-bin/21175631_EAWe also use these a lot when picking critter food apples.. They are easy to carry, stack well if you don't try to over fill.. Easier to use and not bruise fruit compared to buckets.. They work well to haul books also... === === As for "camp" style cutlery, I have been getting odds and ends of siverware sets from the thrift store.. At about $.20 each on senior day discount, I can get tea spoons, salad forks and serviceable enough serated knives.. So this way 2-3 sets can be carried in a sandwich bag in the car.. In each individuals lunch box.. A set plus 1/4 roll bog paper in a home packed daily MRE.. You name the situation required.. This all works so much better than plastic or many other alternatives, and if lost, no great loss.. The only bad thing about losing this table ware in the grass is if it goes through the big mower deck on the tractor, it will stick into the garage siding.....
