Some really interesting thoughts here re this - Sentinal, you are spot on with your initial evaluation.
Unfortunately, the western press is extremely ignorant of Russian/Ukrainian politics, mindset etc, etc.
There will always be 'this theory, that theory', but I doubt we will ever get the truth.

As Sentinal stated, the lawfully elected govt of Ukraine was overthrown by, what many believe to be, a US led coup. The elected govt wanted closer ties with Russia, the opposition wanted to break ties with Russia, and jump into bed with the US/NATO/EU.

All I know is, that Ukraine will be a political hot bed for years to come, and Putin will never back down, but Pres. Obey-me-ama will end up with egg on his face (again).

Definitely a part of the world to keep an eye on!
