It is worth taking a look at your garden at night. In our case, what we saw was an avalanche of snails.
Background, we have a number of Ledlenser Headlamps in our stores. They have a low/high setting, and the high setting is 11 (on a scale of 1 to 10).
Popping one of these on, I checked out one of the vege patches which has shown signs of recent damage. In 30 min, I had half a bucket of snails, and not a little 10L bucket either.
They must hide around the wall base of the raised garden beds during the day, but at night they are all out and in full view.

Did that a while ago when I noticed my spring onions were being eaten. Earwigs. Hundreds of them. It was an our long squish-a-thon.

Time to run a line of salt along the garden edges or a bit out from the base of the plants?

My favorite way to find tomato hornworms is at night with a black light. They glow in the dark under black light.
