Old thing to do do, but useful... Use the dirt from the draft hole and tunnel to mound up the fire side of your pit...
If you find a prairie dog town, you can did a small pit to the side of the angled entrence to the tunnel and the exit end of the tunnel will provide draft for the fire near the tunnel entrance..
Problem is, prairie dogs usually town where there is little to no wood to make a fire with.. There will be wood around, near a source of water, but you may end up transporting wood a distance..
Or using dry cow pies and the like for fuel... A whole another thread..
