Just following on from the collapse health care thread……. And because I’m sick of talking about COVID!! We can see Australia is a bit tribal and vaccine mandates and lockdown protests have showed that. But how splintered do you think it is deep down? What are the big “tribal” groups? I think it is way more complicated than left or right or Muslim vs Christian. I’m a serious doomer, i prep for earthquakes and fires but I think we are on a trajectory for proper collapse….. what would be needed to cause a balkanisation of Australia? I think we might be headed for "PC snowflakes" V "Hard pragmatists" Sign me up for the latter. I want to live in a country that gets thing done ... instead of whinging about sh!T

As far as I'm concerned, there's my tribe and then there's everyone else. How they sort themselves is their business. Hopefully inter- tribe arrangements concerning trade or mutual defence pacts can be forged, but my goal has always been to be tough enough that the other tribes won't fark with us.

I can see where you're going with that Frost, and I agree to a certain extent. That being said I'll always help out where I can because there's one thing I've learned over the years and that is that trust has to come from somewhere. Rarely are people brave enough to be the first ones to offer assistance with no assurance of personal gain unless a prior relationship exists.
I think that staying out of the depths of the intrigue of other communities is wise. Not showing your hand and putting yourself at risk is a smart move. My experience growing up in the sticks was that we always thought people from other local area communities were a bit weird and we certainly were't going to offer them a seat at the table just because they happened to be driving through. But if a fire was coming in on a northerly, our folks would always be in the truck and utes heading over there to help out straight away because the protection of the larger area was more important than who'd been gobbing off about who at the pubs.
I'd like to think that's the kind of situation we'd see. Community groups being largely distrustful and probably a little introverted as a whole but willing to stick up for the greater good when things weren't great.

The city/rural is going to be the main divide. The rural areas are the producers so you will expect them to have less resource shortages, but the city is going to have all the gov/justice/pol/mil backing to strip the countryside of whatever they want.
