Whats your favorite?
Has lasted me awhile but is worn out. Looking to replace with a Leatherman Surge or a Leatherman Wave? Or should i stick to Victorinox over leatherman??

I've got a Surge that I've had for about 6 years or so that I occasionally use at work whenever I can be bothered to put it on my belt lol I like the ability to change blades/saws/files on it yourself and if you snap them just fill out the warranty form and send it off to get new ones fitted

I have a victorianox. Have had for 20 years. Lost it outside for 3 months, barely a spot of rust on it. It's starting to show it's age now, but it's been a brilliant tool which I use regularly.

I've got a Black Leatherman Wave that I've actually used about twice in ten years! It's a boat anchor and mostly stays in a draw!

Thanks for the info norseman. That is the issue i had with some of the leathermans, they are a bit big and bulky compared to the swisstool and i dont have the ability to look at a leatherman in person at the moment. Looks like ill just update the swisstool. It had a pretty good run, had it since 2012 but blade is worn down and the pivot is loose, i could probably get it fixed but I figure it would cost just as much to fix as to buy a new one.

Carried a Leatherman for many years, wore out 2 or three, mainly where the pivots are. Now carry a pocket knife, just a cheap Bunnings one and replace it every few years, as Leathermans are not cheap.
I went to the bank the other day to get my balance, and fell off the roof !

I have a number of multitools 2 Leatherman, 2 Siwss and many cheap knockoffs. . I prefer Swistool.. My latest purchase was Rangergrip 74, or you can go for the hunting version. Depending on what you are doing or main purpose, they are on the top end of the size scale... I alos have a SwillTool X victorinox.com.au/swisstool-x/

Interesting the 'Swiss army' knife was originally developed for military. They are superior to other makes.

I like the Swiss steel as it not too hard and you can get a great edge quickly. Downside is that it requires more regular sharpening. i prefer to get an edge quicker as i can't be stuffed spending 20 mins or more scraping hard steel to achieve the same result as softer steel.

Good idea, the multitool i have in the ute is a supercheap job. Ive got the money now and should upgrade to something better. I always carry a multitool on my belt though so never really thought about having backups until a few years ago. Im a bit of a minimalist and dont really like to collect stuff, especially anything im not going to use.

My Sweetie is one of the few women I have ever encountered that wants to have pockets in her clothes... This as she carries a Leatherman brand multitool pretty much 24/7.. Either in a pocket or in her purse..
I offer the thought of a step up from a pocket multitool.... A good fencing pliers makes a good tool for many needs in one package.. I have several.. A cheap one in the UTV, barn, tractor tool box, you get the idea.. If you pair a good quality fencing pliers, say a Channellock or other name brand with a cheaper store brand similar tool as a back up.. You would be surprised the number of things you can do or fix with this combination..

Definitely a member of the pocket knife brigade. Have several different multitools, Leatherman and Gerber( no real issues with either) but stopped carrying them on my belt years ago as constantly getting snagged moving around locos at work they now live in my work bag and glove boxes. Have a gerber dime on my car keys but only ever used the pliers a couple of time and blade for cutting straps. With my lifestyle when I need tools one of my tool boxes are usually close by. On the subject of pocket knives I inherited my Dads small "Bunny" brand when he went into the nursing home, I found this knife for Dad when I was about 6 years so it's had nearly 50 years of use and abuse, holds a nice edge and not hint of movement in the blade pivot. It's only a small 2 inch blade but does most jobs I need it to( probably skinned 1000 rabbits over the years). They're still available on ebay, but not sure if they would still be the same quality.

Ive worn a Leatherman Wave for years, then when it broke, warranty job to the Wave+. I now own 2 Wave+.
As someone who spends all day selling Leatherman, Winchester, Gerber, Sog and Victorinox multitools, I will forever be a Leatherman Wave+ person.

I have never got multi-tools ... even as a concept.
Single blade pocket knife is all I ever seem to need. For everything else I go to my toolbox and get the proper tool. I'm always close to a toolbox either in my shed or in a vehicle.

I'm always close to a toolbox either in my shed or in a vehicle. My line of work sees me use the pliers, blade, awl quite a bit. Its easy to just have it on my belt with me instead of going to the truck tool box for 3 or 4 different tools for simple jobs.Like today i used the pliers to free some temporary light fixtures from a ceiling that were put there with zip ties and some wire.

And one not so new but really interesting:-
Russian Issue and the one I'd probably opt for in a serious SHTF environment!
