I would recommend having an adjustable cover attached to the bottom can, this is to control the flame.

That one looks ok when he's got it going.
Here's another, one I was thinking about making actually.
And if you want something that's truly smokeless look at alcohol burners. If you want something with no smoke, then you might want to look at alcohol stoves as they have no smoke from the get-go.

Rocket stoves are meant to produce little to no smoke! I used sand as insulater according to instructions I followed but found out later that this is not a good idea! You need to use ash or vermiculite!

I'm only guessing Remnauntprep though I'm thinking that the smoke you had could be caused by 2 things; 1. you had wet/green wood/leaves 2. you filled more than half of the 'airway' with sticks. Many designs use a flattened can as a kind of shelf for the fire, so that the air can get in properly.
Using sand [unless it's wet] or vermiculite really shouldn't make any difference.

Yeah hubby thought we may have been using green wood! I did make a little flat shelf and i did think we may have put too many sticks in! Thanks Shiney!

Does anyone know if we can buy these things in Australia? I could only find ones being sold overseas.
