Looking at purchasing a BCL Bison MRX chambered in 7.62x39 and they retail around $1600 here in Australia. There are a lot of mixed emotions about the earlier rifles quality, but lately I've been hearing good things from Aussie owners. Some might ask why that cartridge? I have a lot of Bulgarian surplus in spam cans I got from my late uncle. I'm not too bothered with corrosive ammo as I'm a meticulous cleaner. When I eventually shoot this barrel out I'll rechamber for 6.5 grendel. Love to hear your experience or thoughts on this system.

I'm not convinced milsurp 7.62x39 is an effective hunting round, they tend to go straight through. And when they hit something hard, like steel, they tend to come straight back at you.

Interesting looking rifle... What do you plan to put on it for glass... My first thought was something like a 1x4x20 compact style...
What magazine does that use ?? AR or other ??
To me the 762x39 is not to be underestimated... I have "seen" a number of what would be considered "large, dangerous" nusience animals (bears) handled quite efficiently with a surplus Russian SKS and the cheap steel case soft point... This all while protecting livestock.. I'm not going to feel less confident with that arm and ammo combo...
Unless my 1916 BSA enfield 303 is closer at hand...

I have a trijicon Accupoint TR24 1-4x24 sitting there from my old pig gun, it is a beautiful price of glass. I was old enough to remember SKS and remember they seam to love the cheap surplus ammo. Hey frostbite I've never shot a pig or a deer and have had them scream out "ahhh you bast#rd you shot me with cheap com-bloc ammo"lol

I think I'm just tired of reloading all the time for 5 kids and components are not cheap atm for 22-250 and others we shoot. Sometimes on a weekend at home we can churn through 2500-3000 of 22lr alone crazy I know. I really would like to utilise the surplus ammo for my teens it could make a cheap training rifle to run.

A saw a goat shot 3 times with chinese milsurp ammo and it was down but it was wasn't out. Maybe just poor shot placement. I think it was that same trip I dropped a chital deer with 1 round of .223, straight through the lungs it dropped on the spot.
I hear you about reloading. My daughter shoots service with a 357mag revolver. She was thinking about 1500 match, I told her the reloading fairy was overworked already.

Mate your not wrong I've seen the same the same thing quite a few times, on different animals and different shooters. Could be shot placement but as we both know there are a lot of variables at play, I've hunted with many and I think we all share different ethics too.

It's effective if you swap out the FMJ's for hollow points or soft points or use Wolf hollows in them! 7.62x39 steel ammo on steel plates quickly makes your sighting in session a two way range!

With FMJ's any game needs a 'french double tap'

Looking this up, it is 12 1/2" or 16 1/2" barrel available here in Canada.. At about $1100.....
The option I like is 762x39, 16 1/2", with the long rail.. A set of fold down back up iron sights and, like said, a small mid to long eye relief optic...
The 80 - 20% rule says to me, this would be more than adequate for all but the just above us in the far north of the province.. Admittedly a bit light to be deliberately going after big bears or moose..
But then the 30-30 Winchester has done the job there for 100 plus years... A whole different thread....

It’s really not a bad piece of gear I think, be nice hanging across the shoulder on a single point sling and being able to do things with both hands free
