About 2 years ago I undertook a search for abandoned mining towns. Was planning a trip to go and view some of them, to find a location to bug out to. Google abandoned towns, mines, occasionally they come up for sale. All one needs is a large truck, a number of UTE with trailers etc.. to move your household and all your preps to set up camp there when things fall apart/TEOTWAWKI/WORL/SHTF........ This thread has got me thinking, perhaps time to review my previous notes and go on a road tour now that I have a company vehicle. Look at Yerranderee, an abandoned goldmining town in NSW.
You know you own an old tractor when.....You are qualified to discuss the relative merits of various brands of hand cleaners.

The issue you've got to look for in old mining towns is the quality of the groundwater. Having worked in said mines for years, even though the pits are just filled with rainwater and water table leaking, there is chemical leaching from leftover explosive residue during blasting operations and such, as well as sometimes old pits used as settling ponds for process plant water. Old gold mines are really bad for chemical leaching as a majority of them use hard acids and such for gold extraction.

Yes there are a number of gems out there, a large number of them came up for sale 2 years back, some allow one to purchase development blocks which is also an option. There are some truly abandoned ones.

Yes water out of the mine pit or underground workings esp. base metal or gold mines is very problematic due to minerals leaching into the water. High acid and heavy meal content. Hence need to find a disconnected bore source.. Most historic mining towns had water sources that one would have to investigate. Yip I would be taking sample bottles with and a bailer to extract ground water. I have national groundwater database, of all registered bores in NSW. I have also considered some existing/operational mining villages that do FIFO After SHIFT/WORL, they will most likely be abandoned - all infrastructure still intact....These areas are not survivable without right equipment and fuel to get there... Water bailer with pingpong ball in the bottom allows for dropping into a bore or lake and taking a sample at depth. An essential item for an INCH bag...

For $20k you can get a shed like this built on a concrete slab, then all you need to do is line it and divide into rooms yourself. This one is on my coastal acreage, I retained the roller door and placed all the power points midway up the walls so that it can become a workshop after the house is built. In the meantime it's a comfortable weekender: Hey which mob did you get that shed from Frost? Looks very suitable for the home office that we're planning to drop on a block when we finally get one. Looks like that might suit our needs. Best Sheds. They are significantly cheaper than some of the other shed/garage companies. This shed is 9m x 6m.

I would have moved to FNQ if my family hadn't settled down south. Safety in numbers works, if you can trust the numbers.

In NSW, depending on the size of the land, sheds up to 50m sq are exempt development, not requiring council permission. Not to be used as a residence though. Larger blocks can have larger sheds under the exempt rules.

Heard that a council somewhere up here is allowing a permanent caravan on site as long as there is a approved dwelling already on the property. Finally sense.
Alex. I'll take things only I know for $10,000.

Yeah, the chronic housing shortage is biting hard, if one does not have housing what gov going to do, keep evicting people. "granny flats" in Melbourne no longer require council approval.
