Strange how Hollywood movies can get people to start prepping. Most of the articles talk of how their preps have been beneficial, I think a warning of things to come. Laura Aucuparia, 38, West Yorkshire: I’ve been hoarding food, water, medical essentials and general survival gear since I watched the film The Road about 15 years ago

That's a fair article. Several real life examples of why this works. 5 years ago those people would have been demonised. Now they are seen as wise.

I'd love to see even more of those kind of articles about Australians. More people are starting to figure out that we're not in for a good time in the next few years.

Poor situational awareness. Dogs are an occupational hazard for me. I don't enter a yard that has a dog unless I have already established a relationship with it (through the regular use of treats). Rattle the gate, look for evidence of a dog (toys, turds, food or water bowls, warning signs) ask the owner etc before you enter. If in doubt, no service for that resident. Simple.

Yes prepping is about situational awareness and training. I have done snake training, and doing a refresher next week. There is training for every situation that can make a difference. nunchucks are a great defence against dogs, carry them down your spine with the chain at your collar for easy retrieve. Used to carry then in South Africa. With Aus restrictions you will have to watch the vid below.

Carrying a small rock can be just fine too. Many years ago had a dog charging at me, a pebble in the face at around 10m changed its mind. Won't work for everyone though, so a 'walking stick' can also be handy.
