The Germans have U turned on the decommissioning of 3 nuclear power plants as well. This is a result of the unstable supply of gas from Russia. France has approx 1/2 their nuclear generation off line for repairs and maintenance. Europe is in trouble this winter.
I tell you one thing though. Those bloody Russians sure know how to use their environment (winter, wet conditions) to wage war. Restricting gas in winter is just an extension of that philosophy.

If I was them I'd be more worried about their jobs. Losing access to cheap energy is going to decimate their industry. Their products are already some of the most expensive on the planet (rightly so), I wonder if people will keep buying if it increases in price by 30%+. Their government is going to get huge industry pressure to end the Ukraine war in the next 6 to 12 months.
Max Hack...what a cracker name! He should of gone into IT.

I can't say I'm surprised. But I think the Germans are a fairly pragmatic people. Significant disadvantage on a national scale isn't too far back in their cultural heritage. I wonder how many Aussies would be preparing slowly and responsibly if given the same conditions?
Well. We already know the answer to that. They wouldn't. They run out and panic buy the second they figure out that something's going on. Which is generally about six months too late.

Here in our far north we are at about 54 north.. The Canada, US border is about 49 north... Berlin is about 53 north... Moscow is about 55 north... So winter is a very real thing..
We have seen video of the information Sweden put out to residents to prepare for ..fill in the blank.. Didn't Germany put out something similar a while ago ??
At least it seems they are attempting to think ahead.. Seemingly, obviously much more than pretty much the whole of North America it seems..
Buckle up campers... It's going to be a long, rough ride I'll bet..

People making commonsense decisions to reduce reliance on an imported fuel source is 'news'?

It's still swapping one imported fuel source for another. Renewables have their flaws, but when the generation occurs on your own soil, no hostile power can turn off the tap.

Macron is off to some old former colonies to beg for gas! I find it interesting that the CEO of Engie (Part-Gov owned energy company) is tagging along for the trip. I think if Algeria push back, France will go hot and take what they want...things will have to get desperate in Europe tho...

Cant happen here....think again all with their heads, or a..es in the sand.
Get prepped with alternative sources of heat, water, electricity food and so on.
The economy is on its way down.
Someone may know the answer to this.
The inflation rate used to be calculated using a typical basket of grocerys and services, electric, petrol etc, is it still done like that ?
If it is, then the real rate is probably double, as the sizes of the packages of food has fallen. Anyone noticed that cornflakes, for instance, are now in a pack size of 870 grams, not 1 kg ? Same with almost all other stuff, smaller packages, same price, so less product and therefore you need more. Inflation is growing at a faster rate than the lairs in the government are saying. And it appears worse overseas, where the inflation rate in the USA is supposed to be zero, yes, Biden says its zero. He calculates that as the change from last month to this month, even though the inflation rate last month was 7 % officially, and its higher this month. All Government lie, some more than others. The safest thing to do is to go in 180 degrees from what they are telling you to do. Another reason to get prepped.
Time flies like the wind, fruit fly's like bananas.

Yep, absolutely it can happen here. All the stuff we buy from the PRC, they could turn that tap off tomorrow. We'd be screwed.
