I've just had 2 Avocado Trees delivered from Diggers. The spot in the garden is ready for them, so now it's time to plant them. I'll soak them in a weak Seasol solution first.

Love this! We were going to plant an avo tree because we're in the perfect climate for them now but we decided against it for one simple reason. We're surrounded by avo farms 🤣. For the moment we're not in our forever home so anything we plant now we'll have to replant when we get to our final property. We'll probably plant a couple of trees then. But we're going to plant a macadamia tree to provide some healthy fats in our diets. The mini-macadamia that we've found that we're going to plant should only take 4-5 years to fruit but knowing our luck we'll have found the forever home by then.
Still, we lived in a place in QLD years back that had some Reed avo trees growing nearby and WOW did they put on some amazing fruit. If we weren't surrounded by farms now we'd definitely be planting one.

I bought a pollinating pair, Hass and Bacon. This is my forever home, so I'm sure I'll be able to hang on long enough to harvest some delicious avocadoes. These two cost just $75 for the two, which is less than just one from the local nursery.

Yes, I thought it was a good deal. They are about $80 locally and very big. These are smaller, about 80cm tall, good leaves and should take transplanting well. Just need to look after them well in their first summer.

Just remember if the roots hit clay they have a good chance of not surviving.

Just remember if the roots hit clay they have a good chance of not surviving. Oh, wow! I did not know that! Maybe that's why my last one died. I was aware that I have a clay sub-layer, and this time I dug a much bigger hole and mixed in more compost and gypsum. Hope I have a better result this time. Wish me luck!
