Hi all,
I’m looking for a portable device that allows me to put a SIM card into it, I can then ring this SIM card (device) up and send some DTMF commands to it and the device will then activate some 12 volt circuits - depending on what codes I send to it. I’d like to have the option of a variety of different codes for different outputs (circuits). Obviously the device needs to be connected to a power supply too.
anyone know what this type of device is called?
thanks

Have a look on the Silicon Chip website. There are many devices based on Arduino and Picomite SBC's that may do what u want. www.siliconchip.com.au/No no, your right, lets do it the dumbest way possible, 'cause its easier for you.

I did this very task with a dtmf circuit, using a old mobile phone with audio jack plugged into it from phone , and phone set to auto answer, was using it for a remote switch for a pump , Once phone auto answered I could enter a dtmf tone ( number button on phone ) of 1 , 2 , 3, 4 to activate switch. You can also utilise a radio instead of phone and send dtmf over the air . Pic from ebay listing . www.ebay.com.au/itm/175443886958

For those people wondering, I am wanting this device for security purposes for one of my houses that is currently sitting empty. I already have cameras installed and can monitor those from my phone, but I am wanting to activate a few other security devices, ie lights, radios at sporadic times - and even activate some watering facilities. I know I can get timers but I am wanting to have a more randomised nature to the devices in my empty house - and plus, if I am notified of a trespasser via my cameras, then i can remotely activate other things too. Unfortunately the state of the environment at the moment makes it very hard and nervous for me in having this empty house and I am wanting to enhance the security for it.
That is why I am wanting this device.

Do you have internet access to the property? Crims actively use WiFi & GSM jammers these days. I'd go for a wired system if you have access to it.

I’ll have to take a risk on them having a gsm jammer though. I’ll need gsm to remote in via my phone - or if I can remote in via pc, but I would prefer to remote in via phone signal as I have my phone with me all the time.

Heck, I read that as "Looking for a divorce". Hubby and I joke regularly that we're going to divorce each other so I guess that's where my brain instantly went. I'm of literally no help whatsoever on this topic, but thought I'd add my absolutely 100% useless 2c worth 🤣

You can still use a phone to access everything you need if you have an internet connection that's on all the time - ie. not dial up. You will probably need a static IP address with your provider. Its probably less stuffing around to go with your phone idea.

Might be worth approaching one of the companies that offers products and services to primary producers for remote monitoring and activation of everything from water infrastructure to gates to electric fencing.

John Deere knows precisely where each tractor is at all times !! Except when we turn off the GPS, then the warning buzzer drives you nuts until you put a screwdriver through it !
I'm here 'cause you broke something.
