I was told by a Ham old timer once that the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race was always a good "practice event" to hone your listening/research skills to cover other emergency events. This was before the days of the internet so it was harder to find frequency allocutions etc, but I think the advice is still relevant.
So if you are into radio and have one in your inventory but dont get to use it much, this might be an opportunity.
A place to start for frequency allocation.

Years ago, hams were the ones who were 'employed' to communicate with the race, before it became very commercial.
That idea is absolutely ludicrous, when do we start ?

Yacht racing is now just "Hey, look how much money I have. Wanna buy a Rolex?"
They of course expect our taxpayer funded emergency services to put their lives at risk when a bunch of millionaires decide to sail into a storm that every single person knew should have been avoided.

Same as every sport really...and you can't just buy a Rolex, you have to go on a list mostly, and then it's the model they offer you.
You really think the States of NSW & Tas. don't make anything from the event? The Army and the Navy has entries so if its good enough for them...

Eh, not really. Plenty of very rich athletes who came from dirt poor backgrounds in soccer, cricket, NFL, baseball. There'll be more sports with lots of similar stories of success, but yachting isn't on that list.

What's your problem with rich people? They are entitled to their toys like everyone else...most of them have worked hard for what they have achieved and those that haven't...well put yourself in their position and see if you act any different.

Is a 1000+ acre block for hunting counted as a rich man's toy?

Rich is a relative term. We out here in Australia are rich, compared to the third world where a cardboard roof over your head is counted as rich.
Australian lifestyle can be classed as rich as well, we have most of what we need, and more. Freedom of movement, freedom where and who to work for, and so on.
Ive been looking at some of the smuggled videos from North Korea and the general population certainly are not rich. Country areas are even worse, to the extent that there are no animals to help with cropping, let alone tractors, and human waste is used as furtaliser.
Its all coming to an end anyway.
If I'm ever on life support, unplug me then plug me back in and see if that works.

You count your wealth in the number of grandchildren you have.

You count your wealth in the number of grandchildren you have. In my World, that's what I consider to be true, tangible wealth these days!

What's your problem with someone expressing their opinion? Normally nothing. But when you barrel on into a thread and your prejudice towards wealthy individuals is all you have to offer (particularly on a thread I started) then you had better at least have a reason.
And as for wealth, you count it by how ever you want to count it.
