I think it's generally a good idea to experiment with items in your prepper pantry, and today for lunch is just what I did.
I went through the front of the pantry, noticing some instant mash that was well past its use by date and also grabbed a tin of spam and coconut cream.
I poured some boiling water over the mash powder, stirred in a little butter and mixed it well.
I then fried some onion with the spam on the stove top, poured in some coconut cream, adding a teaspoon of curry powder and salt and pepper to taste.
Once done, poured ontop of the mash in a bowl and began to consume.
Nothing to get excited about, but in a pinch it was nice comfort food and hit the spot. I couldn't really tell it was spam that I was eating either.
The wife had a try also and agreed it was good.

Reminds me of something we used to make back in the day, we called it 'Cement'. Basically mash with small cubes of fried spam and chopped spring onions.
You could throw in any leftover veggies that you might have laying around. If you had any. I certainly didn't waste money on vegetables back then but if I were to make it now it'd be almost a necessity because it's a pretty heavy meal. You could also add any fresh windowsill herbs like a bit of thyme or rosemary if you wanted to fancy it up. But it was a filling meal that you could whip up really quickly from cupboard supplies and with minimal effort. I remember one of my friends basically drowning the combo in tomato sauce. He used to have more sauce in his bowl than cement 🤢. I'm not a fan of tomato sauce so I used to splash of good dousing of hot sauce on it (preferably a smoky type) and it was good to go.
It's definitely a wise move to know how to make full meals out of your pantry stock. It can be hard to make a meal out of random cans or packets, my hubby is great at looking in a pantry and making up a meal out of whatever is there. For some reason that doesn't work for me, I just look and see random ingredients. There's a few 'pantry staple recipe' books out there, I might have to get myself a couple just so that I have ideas!

Some frozen or tinned veg would have made it a lot better.
