Bit of background Been into prepping since 2015 Thanks to advice from members here I was able to find a job role which allows me to work online from home which does give me some flexibility Currently in the hunter valley Looking for rentals but getting approved for a place amongst 50 other families who are also applying that’s the problem. Giving up my current place to help out family members with kids so they have a roof over their heads can use either a whole property Or a 1 medium bedroom if someone wants to rent out a room I do need to I have good fixed line Wired internet , fixed wireless internet has issues which does restrict me from some inner central area Australia locations In addition to the hunter valley both upper and lower also looking as far north NSW as taree as long as it meet the required internet Need no smoker , no inside pets (if you have outside pets that’s fine), If have one or know someone who does , let me know , even if this is a old topic please send me a direct private message Some of the options that could help members looking Rentafarmhouse for $1 a week www.rentafarmhouse.com.au/results.html A lot of these are in the more central area Australia (not just NSW), they are aiming for families with children takeatumble.com.au/guides/how-to-find-abandoned-houses-to-buy/A long term project - 12-15 years

Is there a particular reason you're looking to stay in the Valley region? Understandable if you have family etc. there. Just thinking outside the box, there's a lot of rural/regional areas where you can find decently priced rentals that still have pretty good service access if you're willing to go to different states. We moved to the other side of the country to be close to family, but if we didn't have that requirement to be close to them we'd probably have looked somewhere around South Australia or even further south in WA than we are.

Same here, but family didn't really enter into our decision to move. A safe spot to see out the coming unrest was no 1 priority.
Now have my sister and one of her girls here, but mum and step dad are fixed in their ways and are 900 km south of us and wont move. So be it, their decision.
And my other sister and her husband and kids are settled down south and also have an alternate property on the shoalhaven river, so are probably reasonably safe as well, but they believe everything going to continue as it is.
Anyone noticed how quickly rural properties are selling ? The for sale notice goes up, and a week later, the sold sticker is attached.
trouble is, most of these imports don't have a clue how country towns work, the Post Office closes at 1 till 2 pm, local produce is off at 5 pm, petrol is at least 10 cents more expensive, etc.
Add in the traveling, nearest largish town is about 1 1/2 hrs round trip, not counting the time u spend shopping in town.
I predict that when nothings happened after a few years, these properties will be up for sale again at much reduced prices as these peoples go back to city life.
You can see the true character of a person by the way they treat someone who can't do anything for them.

I have invited all my family up here, but only my sister took up the offer. So be it, their deaths are on their heads.
Finally understand that being early is not being wrong. It's insurance. You will be proven right one day. When it happens, know that things will be bad LONGER that you prepared for. Food will spoil, expire and bugs will eat your beans, rice and flour. Your yeast will go bad, your seeds will not sprout. It won't be easy in any case. But you will be light-years ahead of your neighbors giving your family a fighting chance. Never underestimate the ability of the government to stretch things out to keep things going, even after they have collapsed.
