I heard of Finnish "SISU" mindset many years ago and now it's arrived to save the Western World (yes I'm dreaming)!

started watching it 2 days ago - about 1/3 through Sisu: The Finnish art of inner strengthThe concept of sisu has no direct translation, encompassing extreme perseverance and dignity in the face of adversity. But can it be learnt?“Sisu will get you even through granite,” my Finnish mother-in-law used to say. If you look at the enormous grey outcrops of granite scattered since the ice age through the Finnish countryside and forests, you’ll realise that getting through them is not just difficult, it is pretty well impossible.
‘Sisu’ in Finnish means strength, perseverance in a task that for some may seem crazy to undertake, almost hopeless. My mother-in-law experienced the bombings of the Winter War (1939-1940) when Finland was attacked by the much superior Soviet army but managed to mount a resistance to remain independent. The New York Times ran an article in 1940 with the headline “Sisu: A Word that Explains Finland”.
The word originates from ‘sisus’, which literally means ‘guts’ or ‘the intestines’ in Finnish
So, what is this almost mythical quality that appears to be so Finnish? “It is a special thing that is reserved for especially challenging moments. When we feel that we came to the end point of our preconceived capacities. You could say that sisu is energy, determination in the face of adversities that are more demanding than usual,” says Emilia Lahti, a researcher of sisu from Aalto University in Helsinki.
A MOUNTAINEER’S GUIDE TO SISU
Veikka Gustafsson became a national symbol of sisu in the 1990s, when he became the first Finn to climb Mount Everest. Here are his tips.
Get used to pushing yourself a little bit further. I always say, if the water is not frozen, you can always go swimming. In the beginning, it does not seem very nice. But after a while you get used to it. You can push yourself into the icy water; afterwards you feel wonderful.
If you make a decision, stick with it no matter what. (Edited to state; I don't always agree with this one!)
When you face difficulties, think of how earlier generations coped with them.
If you are uncomfortable, treat it as an experience.

Interesting that the movie makes the Nazis the bad guys when the Finns teamed up with them for most of WW2. I get why they did that by the way but I despise how movies try and change history for an ignorant public...
