Something that has caught my eye in the last few weeks is the amount of truckies that have reported being attacked, bashed and robbed while taking their required rest breaks. I have even noted some instances of people in their cars suffering the same treatment while also having a rest break out on the highways.
some Truckie fought back with his tyre iron but he said their were 5 of them - with knives. Others have said they drag the truckie out of the cabin and beat him - and rob him. One other guy said his tyres were slashed when taking a test break and these people attacked him when he was fixing the tyres.
this is rather unsettling and it may be a start of more things like this- ie not safe to travel some highways. The worrying thing is that these incidents are not isolated to a particular area - Moree, Lismore, Kempsey, somewhere in southern nsw and boggabilla to name some places. There was even a case a few weeks back when a young family had their car shot at by someone in a land cruiser on the Warrego.
mad max time is here…..

The number of dumped, usually burnt stolen vehicles up and down the highway near us has increased dramatically over the last few years, highways can be very dangerous these days!

It’s all those people with 5 jabs spontaneously combusting and setting their car on fire. Thieves never burn cars unless they used it in a drive by.

86 year old Lady in the next town over had her car stolen. They entered through the back door just on dark, took the keys and swiped the car. She reported it stolen and ended up with a write off insurance claim and 4 $900 fines for speeding etc. The local cop said he would take care of it for her and another one was coming for $550. All in 3 days !
Any landing you walk away from is a good landing.

It has been a while ago now, but there have been a number of robberies of train cars.. I have to presume, because no trains were stopped while moving.. This as they sat on sidings before reaching there destinations seemingly leaving no clues as to who did this..
Some of the cargo has been, but not limited to ....ammoniate nitrate (used in commercial blasting, bombs) and a couple rail cars of small arms ammo..
This makes me think there has to be some sort of inside help to do this...

I haven't seen an uptick of attacks (or even reports of attacks). I'm on the west coast so perhaps that's why, but even when we were on the east coast up until last year I didn't see anything about attacks. If we were at Mad Max levels you can guarantee there'd be heaps of reporting about it and it would be general knowledge for the majority of the population because we're such a large country that if you want to go ANYwhere, you're travelling for many many hours by car. Not to be that guy, but 'some guy said' does not a fact make.

I reckon the uptick of burned cars (which I DID notice before we left the east coast... at least around where we were living) has far more to do with insurance write-offs than an increase of criminal activity. The biggest problems we're facing as a society right now that would cause that kind of increase is people not being able to afford repayments or desperately needing an influx of money. I suspect that when we see news reports of this kind of thing it'll mean we really are in a new era.

I suspect that when we see news reports of this kind of thing it'll mean we really are in a new era. I don’t know if I can agree with that. I am in qld and there is a huge rise in car theft in the last 18 months - mostly down to teenagers knocking off cars, joyriding them and burning them up, and rinse and repeat. Car theft is a big issue in this state and many are found to be burnt out. usually the same kids all the time. All over the state, they break into homes, get the keys, go joy riding, take photos of themselves and plaster on tik tok, then burn or dump the car. this is causing a lot of angst among the general public. I don’t think this issue is just in qld though. so I don’t think I can agree with your statement about the majority of these burnt car shells being insurance jobs.

It’s all those people with 5 jabs spontaneously combusting and setting their car on fire. Thieves never burn cars unless they used it in a drive by. Thats not totally correct If you live in Tassie and your car is stolen then your pretty much never get it back its thrashed then burnt out i remember a farmer getting us to clean out the back of his farm that was on the edge of Gage brook and we dragged 71 burnt-out cars from in there everyone that i know in tas from when i lived there that had their car stolen it was burnt out where i live now in FNQ the car theft capital of Australia they break into your house steal the keys take your car do some more crimes then joy ride it till they either crash the car or dump it very rarely do they burn them out currently the numbers for car theft here are this month 58 so far for this year 436 not bad for a town with a population of just over 180k I have heard anecdotal evidence that there has been a bit of thievery going on around the locations that trucks have to drop their trailers and a trend that is starting here is random people calling out from the side of the road when you're at a stop light telling you there's something leaking under your car and when you get out of the car you get jumped the police are doing the best they can but most of the offenders are under 18 down to around 10 and 11 so basically there's very little they can do plus they are the political hot potatoes because if they crack down its called systematic racism truthfully youth crime has gotten so bad now that they refer to the nearby coles store as 'The tuckshop" because they walk in fill their bags with whatever they feel like and walk out and all the employees can do is follow them around and ask them to leave and as one employee found out the moment you try to take their bag from them the police jump you and arrest you assaulting a minor yep that's right even though the police followed the kid around and saw him stealing stuff they still arrested the person that tried to stop him and pressed charges on the minors behalf its time to face it we as a society are F*CKED They have no fear of authority or police because they know that can play the victim card every time welcome to the system it doesn't matter if you're black or white it hates you all
