I was talking to some mates in Texas, via ham radio recently, and they recounted some issues they had getting petrol for their generators during a grid down situation. People couldn't get petrol for their generators because there was no power to pump the petrol from the underground tanks.
We have a 12 kva 4 cyl water cooled diesel generator, so have a 20 gallon diesel tank underneath it, giving at least 24 hours continuous use. But, as standby, I also have a 8.5 kva Honda petrol generator, and its can also run from lp gas. Its a simple conversion and means that I can operate it from the almost inexhaustible supply of BBQ bottled gas, available almost everywhere.
No pumping needed, just buy, with cash of course, some BBQ gas and away it goes. Its not without a few small issues. One is that u can only get about 2/3 the power from LP gas as petrol, but that's still in excess of 6 kva. The other issue is that the generator pulls the gas out at a far greater rate than a BBQ does, so the bottle freezes up after 10 mins or so, stopping gas flow. The easy solution to that is to sit the bottle on a brick, so the exhaust pipe blows over it, keeping it hot and unfrozen. Works the treat.
Also, my farm ute, our vehicle we keep ready for to pick up the troops if an emp happens (No computer etc on this 40 year old truck), and I have to get them from wherever they are, is also duel fuel, petrol and lp gas. I have a tube with the appropriate fittings each end to transfer gas from the ubiquitous BBQ bottle to the truck, so once again have an almost unlimited supply of fuel available in an emergency situation. The freezing issue wont happen as the system is designed for handling liquid LP gas, and I just turn the bottle upside down and let the liquid flow into the existing tank mounted on the tray. Its true that BBQ lp gas burns a bit hotter than automotive gas (Its purer), and could damage an engine, but who cares in an emergency and its a long term process anyway.
LP gas can be stored literally as long as the bottle lasts, potentially 100's of years without degradation. So get busy and convert your petrol generator to duel fuel, lp gas, ASAP and remove fuel worry's from the list of issues that can affect you in an extended grid down situation.
Who is going to confiscate those weapons? Once you start going door to door confiscating weapons the new Civil War will have officially started. Do these morons understand that?
