Have a look at what happened in South Africa when copper theft and corruption left the country unable to produce enough electricity. The US isn't anywhere near this bad, but if Kamala wins, it's surely in the future. Renewables are completely reliant on a stable grid and stable energy prices. Take either of these away and you'll have ageing/decommissioned fossil fuel plants with insufficient generation to replace them. |

The satellite for my sat phone also died recently, so I switched to Starlink, which has 6000 satellites and ever increasing. Safety in numbers.

Apparently, the satellite that disintegrated was in a low earth orbit, the same as Starlink is, so maybe Musks time as a major satellite operator is over. The satellites do have a limited amount of propellent allowing some repositioning out of the way of harm, but all its gonna take is a couple of collisions and they will all be going down. Should be some spectacular sights in the sky as the junk burns up.
Got your backup ham comms organized ?
Footnote....This is getting interesting. Another report I've just read suggests the satellite was actually in geo synchronous orbit at 32,000 Km, so Starlink is safe.

China is in massive trouble with. Market volatility is up, HK markets also in big sell off. Of concern is the bond market which is way bigger than the stock markets. Trump may well be the only president capable of dealing with this. He's brought Musk on board, who fired 80% of Twitter's staff with zero effects on the company's performance. Hopefully he can do the same in governemnt. Trump is far better set up this time and has already had many meetings with business leaders about getting rid of pointless beurocrats and bringing back some of the US manufacturing that has been lost overseas.

The wording is interesting...exploded....
It was in geo orbit, 36,000 km above, so no threat to musk's system (except when the bits start to come back home to earth), but could be an issue to a lot of other satellites.

Washington State and Nevada have activated National Guard units to help with law enforcement on election day. IMO this is a reasonable use of the NG. Domestic services supporting other domestic services, even if it's a para-military service it seems like the right thing to do given the climate. Absolutely would not advocate for regular services to be used that way, but NG seems like the right group to use to ensure the day goes as smoothly as possible.
