The unseen issue with almost ALL nuclear reactors, the issue that's never mentioned or discussed in public.
Residual heat. When the control rods are dropped into the nuclear pile and the reactor 'shut down', there is still about 10 % of the heat created when in operation to be removed. Even in "cold shutdown", this heat is still generated, and will be for many, many years as the reactions slow down.
Why do you think its such an issue in Ukraine to keep the power connected to the reactors, or the backup generators operational ?? The power is needed to run pumps to remove this heat. Some reactors, smaller ones, can have the heat removed by convection only, but the commercial grade reactors....how many operating nuke plants are there in the world ? 435, so there is potentially 435 Chernobyl's awaiting us. And nuke power is pushed as being safe ! Well, it is until it isn't ! That residual heat has to be removed continuously, or else...melt down. Ultimately, that's whats gonna kill us off WTSHTF, forget bugging out, food etc, we are all gonna die from radioactive poisoning. It will take time, but that's the ultimate ending. The reactors removed from old nuke subs are carefully stored and have to be cooled continuously, for ever !!!!, well, as far as our life span is concerned its forever.
It is better to perish than live as a slave.

Natural disasters will in the end cause the reset. Earthquakes, volcanos, drought flood, meteorite strikes, CME - it is also biblical. Natural disasters has wiped out many previous civilisations.
A few reactors melting down will not wipe out humanity.

Its not a "natural disaster", but man-made. And its not just a few reactors melting down, but 400 plus.
Radiation is insidious stuff and will eventually get even the elites and Government turds cowering in their fall out proof bunkers.
Your Geiger counter may well turn out to be the most important piece of technology you have, even more so than weapons or ammunition. Have you got one ? I have.
The southern hemisphere will be safe for a while as the atmospheric mixing process between hemispheres is very slow, 6 to 12 months, but we will get irradiated eventually anyway. Neville Chute was right in the On the beach novel. Not with a bang but with a whimper. In several 1,000 years the radiation will have decayed away, to 'safe' levels (there is no such thing, it exists forever, only the half life changes).
It is not despair, for despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt, we do not.

Im with MWT on this - looking at airflow and current flow around the world, plus what actually happens if a nuclear reactor melts down - I don't think we are in for an "on the beach" scenario or it will wipe out civilisation - but I'm not sure I would be eating the seafood!! Guy McPherson rates this as one of the causes of near-term human extinction - although I take his advice with a grain of salt.
But I broadly agree that in the event of a widespread collapse, we will start to see reactors popping off all over the show as the "infallible" redundancy fails, and that will lead to big consequences.

The real end of the world will be caused by the sun running low on fuel, expanding to engulf the inner planets including earth, leaving nothing but a well scorched planetay core hanging in cold space.
The world got over huge ice ages and cataclysmic meteorite strikes. A few poxy reactors popping off wont bother earth at all. Check out the forests around Chernobyl. All good.
And ... trains were running in hiroshima within a week of it being nuked with an atomic weapon. I beleive people still live there to this day. Funny about that.

For all of us the end of the world is when we succumb to cancer or heart disease. Or ... crash our motorbike into a power pole.

Or the sun expands and takes us out in a few gazillion years.
The more I see, the less I know for sure.

The end of the world would more than likely be some astronomical event ie sun, meteor, aliens clearing the way for an intergalactic super hwy etc The end of civilisation would be brought likely by the corruption of government and the elites who pull the strings of government and will probably be either mass civil unrest, WW3, a rogue nuclear state, or proxy war gone wrong

"People of earth, your attention please. This is Brostetnic Foerjunx here from the galactic hyperspace planning council. As you are no doubt aware, plans for the development of the outlying reaches of the galaxy, require the building of a hyperspace express route through your star system, and, regrettably your planet is one scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than 2 of your earth minutes. Thank you very much" Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
The problem isn't a lack of money, food, water or land..The problem is that you've given control of these things to a group of greedy psychopaths who care more about maintaining their own power than helping mankind....

More likely a delay in some random pointless piece of paperwork will do it. I never believed that part of the story was accurate. Bureaucracy kills with stupidity and rarely gets anything done in a timely manner 😅

One day we wake up and the World government has outlawed all use of cash, from now on, digital only. Civil strife and uprisings happen.
WW3 is declared to mask the intentions of world control from the masses, and its all over.
And ford Prefect sticks out his electronic thumb and catches a ride to Alpha Centori with an intergalactic Google delivery driver.
Don't be afraid to drive a nail into the wood !
