This is currently my favorite phrase. This website has an insight to where it came from and what it means. everyday-carry.com/post/2522709708/what-exactly-does-two-is-one-one-is-none-meanDoesn't mean you carry extra, just means you have redundancy. e.g. Instead of just vaseline cotton balls, carry vaseline lip balm, baby oil and iso alcohol with cotton balls/cotton pads Good for medical emergencies, moisturizing and starting fires. instead of 2 bic lighters, carry 1 knife + fire steel and a lighter. I would add on with a pack of wind proof matches. Think about multi-use and redundancies when planning for your EDC/BOB.. these need to be as light as possible.

Yeah, love the 2 is 1 philosophy. Some things, particularly if mechanical might benefit from having a spare that's the same item. For instance having 2 motorcycles the same. If one breaks down, you've got it for spare parts still.
